Guest guest
Namaste Everyone With regard to the 2007 sankalpa I would like to humbly offer some thoughts on the subject. In this case, should I take this sankalpa of 100 000 mantras over the course of the year? In reading the postings on this issue it is apparent that there is a wide range of opinion as to what is TOO MUCH AND TOO LITTLE. What we have is a failure to have balanced equilibrium. If I'm struggling with the rigor of this sankalpa and Iam looking for balance I can imagine myself standing before Maa and Swamiji seeking their guidance. I think they might say things like: To each according to his or her own capacity. Worship is a privilege, something we want to do, not something we half-to do. It is the effort that is important I think they would say, Yes it is rigorous, but you can try. Swamiji might tell the story of how his guru asked him to increase his asan by five minutes per month. Hardly a spiritually rigorous goal, but not spiritually apathetic either. Both Maa and Swamiji would probably stress that the goal is to become a lover not the beloved. Lovers reach out and seek to serve. Our capacity to worship and love is not denigrated by our lack of capacity to speedily chant a samkrt mantra. (But we can try!) In the end there can be no peace in the universe until there is peace in the three worlds and all hostility is removed. The sankalpa is for us, and according to our own capacity we can try! Guest guest
Some great comments, Michael. You know, I haven't begun the practice yet, but I've been looking at this mantra thinking, "That sure is a long mantra...", but I just counted up the syllables and it has thirty-two (if I counted right), which is only three more than Gayatri has. My very first sankalpa was a lakh of Gayatri mantra and I did ten a day. It was really kind of scary at first, but I had confidence in myself, and in the guru, and somehow I made it. It was a real step forward for me, and though it was a struggle, it was more than worth the effort it required. Jai Maa! Guest guest
It takes a different amount of time for different people to recite - if your recitation is slow (as it often is when reciting a new mantra, especially a longer one), then one mala may take upwards of a half hour to an hour. If your recitation is faster, it will be a lot quicker. 3-4 malas per day of recitation will take you to one lakh recitations in one year. jai maa! shanti saa'ham -sundari On 1/7/07, donna pemberton <donnola17 > wrote: > > > okay, i'm confused. it's just a 32-syllable mantra we're asked to recite? > why is it supposed to take so long? what am i missing here? > > ** > > > > > > > > -- ------- erin (AT) erinjohansen (DOT) com www.erinjohansen.com

Guest guest
Namaste Donna, we are reciting the mantra 100,000 times over the course of the year. If you wish, you can do it in a week or a month or a year. It is set up this way because the sankalpa (commitment) is for the whole year. hope this helps Jaaaaaaaai Maa , donna pemberton <donnola17 wrote: > > > okay, i'm confused. it's just a 32-syllable mantra we're asked to recite? why is it supposed to take so long? what am i missing here? > > > > > > > >
