Guest guest
Dear Group, I recently took my PhD qualifying exam and everyone on the committee agreed to pass me except my own advisor. She is requiring some extra work on my part. She has also very unfairly scored my performance very low. I find it sadthat my own advisor is doing this. I am fearful about the future of my PhD. Please help me. A little about me in case it is needed: I am currently a PhD student and I am doing research in a biomedical related field. Ever since 2000 I have I had a very difficult time in my studies and have not studied properly or received good results. I have had pretty serious problems with authority figures and I suffer from lack of self confidence. Often I find myself in situations where I am being treated unfairly and taken advantage of. After much struggle I got this admission into the PhD program in April 2004. If you could offer me any advice, guidance or suggestions on how I can make myself and more stronger person and get through these times I would really appreciate it. My advisor is also threatening to hinder my progress and I am very scared. A few people have actually suggested that I take legal action. But I know they are just angry with the way I am being treated. Will I be able to get my PhD? If so when? My birth details are December 13, 1980 time 9:00am place Long Beach California USA. Significant events: I am not married,I have a younger brother born Dec 8th, 1986 I Moved away from home August 2002. Got admission into PhD in April 2004. Knee surgery at 13 years of age. Thanks for all your help. Sincerely, Seema
Guest guest
Seema, Period after August 2007 is better for higher education related matters. Next several months are not good for picking up fights or getting involved in legal battles or confrontations with your teachers (and equivalents). You are being perceived by those in power as a person who is 'negative', does not work 'sharply' -- intelligently or hard and lacks confidence. You are also perceived as someone who bad mouths others and all of these impressions, rightly or wrongly have created problems. Please see if there is anything you can do to reverse the situation or to improve it at least. You should improve on your networking skills a bit more. After Ph.D. will come job interviews and references would be needed and if you do not make changes in how you express yourself or are perceived by others, particularly in positions of power, these issues and miseries will continue on and on. Also check with your parents to get a better sense about your birthtime. Could it be possible that you were born a few minutes after 9 AM?
