Guest guest
Greetings everyone! This is my first post to the group, I hope it's a good one! I got an email from the Devi Mandir Family today which contained a link to Swamiji's devanagari and translations of bija and Gayatri mantras for the Ten Mahavidyas. Needless to say I clicked the link immediately because I have studied the Ten Mahavidyas somewhat extensively in the past (there is not much solid info out there) and I am always hungry to learn more about them. The mantras themselves are beautiful and valuable tools, I'd like to thank Swamiji for making them available! According to my researches, there is a discrepancy here that I would love to clear up: what happened to Kamala? (or Kamalatmika as she is sometimes known) On Swamiji's list of the Mahavidyas, Kamala is not included. Instead, there are two names, Shodashi and Tripura Sundari, that I am used to understanding as being different names for the same goddess (additional popular names being Lalita and Shri, as in Shri Vidya). In at least one book that I've read, the author casts some doubt as to whether or not Kamala really belongs with the Ten Mahavidyas and presents some evidence to say that she is a later addition to the group. Is that Swamiji's understanding? Or is it possible that Shodashi and Kamala are interchangeable in this context? Many thanks to Shree Maa, Swamiji, and all of you who work to maintain both the website and this group! Ian

Guest guest
Yes, Thanks to Swamiji for posting this. Maybe we could have some teaching on significance of The Mahavidyas and the benefits of chanting their mantras sometime soon? ...Or a sound file? Many Thanks, Mark , Nirmalananda Saraswati <nirmalananda1008 wrote: > > Welcome to the group Ian! > > This is a good question - was wondering about it also.
