Guest guest
Hi, I've decided I want to write a little bit about knowledge, especially as it relates to my personal experience. I like knowledge, but not for its own sake, but because it leads me to God. If knowledge has no power to help or transport, I want none of it. Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram : Truth, Auspiciousness, or Ultimate Goodness, and Beauty. These are attributes of God. They are also the attributes of spiritual truth, because Truth, Pure Knowledge, is God manifested. In my view, real spiritual knowledge comes in two types, either it is useful, practical, or it reveals (unveils) Divinity. Practical spiritual knowledge helps yourself or others with the practical aspects of sadhana, practices, etc., while the other actually has the ability to connect, transport, awaken, and empower. I know nothing of the scriptures, nothing of Sanskrit, nothing of the Hindu liturgy, but for me, spiritual knowledge holds great beauty and power to lift one to the heights of devotion. The accumulation of scriptural knowledge for its own sake only feeds the ego, and becomes a burden to the soul. But it can be a key that unlocks the hidden mysteries of the Beauty that is All This. My mind always tends toward synthesis; it's just the way it works. It enjoys collecting disparate little pieces of information, and putting them together into a meaningful whole (I see it as approaching Truth). Fortunately, this is just what is needed in the realm of spiritual understanding. The samsara is filled with divisions, separations, and opposites, yet behind it all, the cause of it all, is One - Unity. For me, it is like a jigsaw puzzle, except that the pieces are all scattered about and I don't know what the finished picture will look like; I only know it will be Beautiful. A scripture, here, will have a piece, a person, there, a bit of Light from contemplation...One only needs to learn to read between the lines, to look for the meaning between the opposites. I collect these disparate bits of spiritual information, keeping them somewhere in the back of my mind, until one day I get a piece that fits with all the others and a beautiful Image of Divinity appears. That image is only a piece, can be only the merest piece of a piece, but it nevertheless somehow contains the perfection of Beauty it represents. We live in a universe of infinite beauty and diversity. There is no end to the discovery of Its wonders, the worship of Its infinite Being. It is the birthright of every one of us. The ultimate destiny of all of us who finally go beyond. At least, that is how I see it... Jai Maa! Chris
