Guest guest
One morning, a while back, I was rousted from my post Sadhana nap by a loud, rapid fire metallic sound. It came and went sorta quickly. I couldn't really tell what was going on. The rhythm was somewhat familiar, though, but I was hesitant to draw any conclusions. And then, a few weeks later it happened again.....and at the same time, right after Sadhana. This time I laid there listening for a couple of minutes and I was finally able to make some sense of this weird occurrence. I was able to hear "his" nails maneuvering up and down the metal. That's what stood out. It was a woodpecker whacking away on the metal downspout outside my window. I recorded this using my home. If you listen careful you can hear his nails yourself. I just called my home number, held the phone outside the slightly ajar window, and the bird left a message for myself. Check it out yourself. http://church-mouse.com/Woodpecker.mp3 I figured it was a "He" because I'm pretty sure that the only benefit that can be derived by such behavior is a loud territorial display. Natures original rappers, if you will. X to be O. Sat Nam, Dharam Singh
Guest guest
Hello, I'm new to this group, and I'm enjoying the posts so far. What an interesting visitor you've had, and it's great you could record it. I have two different species of woodpeckers regularly visit my feeders, and I always enjoy watching them. You're most likely right about it being a male. Male woodpeckers rap on metal and other non-food sources in order to increase the volume of their drumming to "show off" for the females. Perhaps it's similar to how girls can go ga-ga over boys in the band. namaste J Kundaliniyoga, D h a r a m <pran--yogi wrote: > > One morning, a while back, I was rousted from my post Sadhana nap by a > loud, rapid fire metallic sound.
