Guest guest
Sat Nam Doran, I suffered from depression and anxiety throughout most of my adult life. I practiced kundalini yoga at various times, took Prozac for a period of time and belonged to (and practiced) a l2 step program consistently. Several years ago, I started to practice kundalini yoga on a daily basis. I also discovered this website(www.kundaliniyoga.org) that contained all sorts of information and wisdom. I also discovered a book, The Destiny of Women , that was written by Gururattana Kaur Khalsa, that truly changed my life. It addresses our inner reality as women and actually contains blueprints (so to speak) for the healing process. I, too, was always looking out for a magic kriya or prayer to take away all of my anxiety, conflicts and pain. Early on in her book, Gururattana cautions, "It is not possible to delegate the task of inner growth to a commission. There are wonderful people to help you along the way but you and only you must do your inner work. You must have the discipline to do whatever it takes to open your heart to yourself." Over the past eighteen months, I have combined the l2 steps, kundalini yoga and therapy to identify, address and heal inner wounds that have tormented me for years. Gururattana said the goal is to "name it, claim it and release it..." There are many people on this list who have practiced kundalini yoga consistently for years. Their kindness and compassion and love is incredible. I used to think that only people in twelve step programs truly understood the human condition. I couldn't have been more mistaken. The yogis you will meet have an abundance of knowledge, experience, wisdom and plain old good common sense. Do yourself a favor. Give yourself a present - a copy of "The Destiny of Women" by Gururattana Kaur Khalsa. (It is available at www.yogatech.com) It does contain various sets and meditations to guide you in the process. The most important thing I've learned through all of this is to do something (even for three minutes) everyday. "Keep up" as they say. Many blessings to you on your journey.....and with an abundance of love and gratitude to my sisters and brothers on this list. God bless you.
