WOMEN AND PURITY-UNDERSTAING MAA'S QUOTE

The other day a devotee posted a quote from Shree Maa saying that

women should practice purity and this will inspire men.

Some of us have questioned what Maa meant by this statement.

Tonight I asked Swami about women practicing purity and what Shree Maa

meant by this.

Swami said that women have shakti, and are more refined than men and

thru their purity and shakti can inspire men to aspire to a higher level.

This does not get men off the hook, said Swami, men still have to

perform sadhana and work for this world.

I have been thinking about the broader implications of this statement.

This world we live in is upside down. Men are in power, and women,

in most parts of the world, are second class citizens. The shakti is

ignored, mistreated, and ridiculed. Ideas of nurturing our young, and

spreading harmony and peace in the world are thought of as feminine

ideals, impractical for this harsh world, while the male notion of

controlling thru fear and strength, and ego based behaviors, rules

this world.

For this world to change, we have to honor the shakti in all its glory

and wonder in our wives, sisters, daughters, mothers, and friends. If

we could practice this sadhana, in our daily lives, what a world this

would be.

This is the challenge of this time in human history. We have in our

midst, Shree Maa, a shining example of purity in action, one who cares

more about others than Herself, who honors Mother Earth with every

breath, and who inspires our women to the highest ideal of perfection,

to be living Goddesses.

Men have to bow low, and open our hearts to this highest vision of

purity. Honor that which gave birth to us, which sustains us, and

without which, we have no life. Only then can we begin to think of

ourselves as Her Children.

As we bow, our children and friends will see and feel the change, and

they will bow, and slowly, man by man, this world will change.

This is what Maa meant by woman practicing and living purity and

inspiring men.

Namaste Vish,

thank you very much for helping me to understand Maa's quote and for

the inspiration and also the vision that balance can be restored in

the world, slowly but surely.

A question: don't we all have the full range of qualities, male and

female (though there may be a difference in emphasis)? I have been

thinking that perhaps this 'practice of purity which will inspire men'

could also apply to the inner process of purification in all of us,

which was so beautifully illustrated by Kalia's silversmith story.

Sun and moon, gold and silver, male and female, they are both within

and without.

Just a thought, don't know if there's anything in it,

with love,

Henny
