Others can infer from his actions. His disciples should have full faith that their teacher is realised - otherwise they will not gain the knowledge. For others it is faith - Only he alone knows that he has realized. Hari Om! Sadananda
Guest guest
In the early days when there were only a few devotees around, Bhagavan used to share in all the work. One day Sri Ramana was doing some physical labor and involved in some construction. He was alone. Some people came by and saw Bhagavan sweating and laboring. They had come to visit Sri Ramana. So they asked Bhagavan where the Swami is. Sri Ramana said that the Swami was not there and had gone somewhere. So the people left and started going down the hill. Going down, they met a devotee of Bhagavan on the way and asked about the Swami. The devotee said that Swami was definitely up there on the hill. Puzzled, everyone started climbing back up. When they got up there, Bhagavan had taken a bath and was looking nice and clean with religious marks on the forehead and so on. The visitors bowed to Bhagavan and had his darshan and then left. After people left, the devotee turned to Bhagavan and she asked why do you trick people like that? Bhagavan said---What am I supposed to do...put a big sign here or a label on my forehead saying, "Here is the Swami!" Guest guest
Dear Sri Dhyansarswati-Ji: You are right about everything you say about Bhagavan. For devotees, we have his teachings and also his life as a message. The story I alluded to earlier can be found in "Unforgettable Years" which are reminiscence of early devotees. The story was told by Raja Iyer. Echamma was the devotee who had brought the visitors back up again assuring them the Swami was on the hill. She later chided Bhagavan for misguiding the visitors and telling them Swami was elsewhere to which Sri Ramana had responded, "What can I do? Do you want to tie a placard round my forehead announcing that I am Ramana Maharshi." Sri Ramana was unpretentious in every way. There are some amazing stories about Bhagavan and perhaps one has to be a devotee to fully understand and enjoy them. Thanks for your kind comment about my picture at 21. That was one of my last pictures with a mustache. My mother had copies of those pictures and so I scanned them. I put one up in the last article. My mother enjoys reading my articles and seeing different pictures. So I definitely have one big fan out there! :-). You can see me standing with my mother on the home page of HS site in the center. Guest guest
Dear Sir, For the jnani it is as much an illusion the idea that one has got enlightenment, as the earlier notion cherished by him that he was unenlightened. I am not being dogmatic. But, I am inclined to think in this way, which may be an unmitigated non-sense: The illumined state cannot be compared to the empirical awakening from the dream state to the waking state. This example, I feel, is only a symbol, the transcendental awareness not brooking any conceptual knowledge. However, one has to be aware of the fact of the great pain of duality to awaken just as one awakens only when the dream of the waking state happens to be a nightmare rather than a pleasurable experience. with regards Sankarraman The fish are biting.
