Guest guest
Hi Dennis, Perhaps my definitions may assist in motivating some of the more learned members of the group to have a go. Sometimes it is easier to start on something when there is an obvious place to start, i.e. a glaring misunderstanding that needs correction. Ananda, the bliss/love/peace/eternalness of atman/brahman (?omniprescence - present everywhere) chit, all seeing (?omniscience - all knowing) sat, being, I am, (?omnipotent-all powerful) antaHkaraNa, mind consisting of memory& latent impressions (result of past experience-includes karmic tendencies) feelings-perception (sense radar picking up labelling and sorting experience-desires/aversions) ego - wrong idea of I am, relating to the person intellect-decision maker/troubleshooter guNa, the three qualities/tendencies that balance together in various ways in each thing, that move all phenomena of nature to act in various ways. Sleep/lazy/dull/dark active, driven, motivated wise, spritual, gentle/light nirguNa-saguNa, Brahman with qualities, i.e. gunas - phenomena, the world, is visible and active Braham as I am.. This is the other side of the coin to nirguna Brahman which I understand as I without qualities void/unmanifest/dormant. prakRRiti, Nature - all phenomena, moved by the gunas and formed to function in various ways based on the inherent design of each thing. saMsAra the cycle of birth and death where the mindstream continues to move towards its true nature (uncover itself) through the learning of each life, either based on karma (trial and error/the hard knocks) or by being intelligent and learning from the masters. turIya being the pure consciousness, that which is there through each of the states of sleeping/waking and dream states. To uncover this and be with it the presence of atman/brahman hope this gives the group something to work on, warm regards, Dot Send instant messages to your online friends http://au.messenger. Guest guest
Hi Dot, Thanks for those pointers. How about picking two or three yourself and expending upon them? :-) (Note that, if you do, you need to check with me first so that we don't have any double-booking.) Guest guest
dear dennis-ji : i have been longing and yearning to contribute on a)PrAKRITI AND b) Gunas as they are interconnected but the main reason i was hesitating to come forward and volunteer was you had specifically mentioned 'senior' members of the group and that disqualified me instantaneously . Although i may be a Senior citizeb in terms of age , in Advaitic wisdom i am still an infant sitting on the lap of Mother Nature ("prakriti) and battling with the three modes of material nature (GOODNESS PASSION AND INERTIA ) .. I am far fro a gunatita ! (beyond the gunas) hence , the reluctance and the hestitation ... otherwise , you know , my supoort is always there with you in this noble venture you have started . 9 am surprised that in this learned satsangha consisting of such scholars and seasoned advaitins, why nobody is volunteering ? Ramji, sadaji, michaelji, bhaskarji, sreenivasanji, harshaji, nairji, and sunderji and above all subbuji .... and many many others whose names i cannot readily recall .. sorry about that ! why? why? Yours is to do and die and not to question why ! men may come and men may go but Advaita goes on far ever i know for a fact if Chitta were here , he would have volunteered for al of these and more ! Come on Tigers - go for it! pustakasyA tu yA vidyA, parahastagataM dhanam kAryakAe samutpaNe, na sA vidyA na taDhanam Knowledge that is in note-books in (our) shelves, and (our) money now in the hands of others, both are useless. When time comes for their use neither that knowledge nor that wealth will be available. i am in my daughter's home taking care of her.. she is in the last trimester of her pregnancy and i told her i will not spend any time on the internet but i broke my promise to rush in and encourage Dennisji in his noble venture and not to loose heart so quickly ... love to one and all advaitin, "Dennis Waite" <dwaite wrote: > > Hi Dot, > > > > Thanks for those pointers.
