Guest guest
Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Portal of India Summary: CHILD BIRTH: a time for joy and celebration. Sometimes, in the course of the next few months, the joy appears to be short-lived, when the child does not appear to keep pace with other children of same age, and is medically labeled as Neurodevelopmentally delayed due to Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Down, Fragile X Syndrome, Galactosemia, Rett's Syndrome, and so on. Parents end up rushing from pillar to post, with little in the way of encouragement from a majority of the the Medical and Therapy professions. At such times, the parent, especially the mother, needs to know just what is wrong with her child, in a language she can understand. She needs to know what are the risks, prognosis, established and experimental treatment techniques available to help her special child, and where they are available, how effective as well as safe they are, and at what cost: both economically, logistically, emotionally and family sacrifice-wise. This website is our small effort to fill that void. Theme of UDAAN http://www.udaan.org/ This website is dedicated to the parents and caregivers of a special need child who has a Neuro-developmental Disability like Cerebral Palsy (CP), Mental Retardation (MR), Down Syndrome, Autism, Klippel Fiel Syndrome (KFS), etc., to try and explain what is wrong with the child, why, what could be done about it, and what we at UDAAN offer at New Delhi, India. This site is not meant for the Professionals, though they too might pick up a few points here and there. I have tried to simplify the language of scientific papers down to what even a high school pass person my understand.
