Guest guest
01/25/2007 Plans have been announced to increase the eventual number of Vedic pandits in Maharishi Vedic City from 381 to 1,050. Although 200 new arrivals are expected soon, Jim Karpen with the Maharishi University of Management public affairs office said their arrival is not imminent. The pandits, who first started arriving Oct. 28 with their cooks and assistant cooks, are being brought to the United States to achieve the Maharishi Effect and foster harmony and peace in the world. Construction of facilities on the new 80-acre pandit campus in Vedic City continues at a better-than-expected pace because of the mild winter conditions. Infrastructure has been installed for 50 homes, and 30 homes are completed. A building for group meditation, dining and kitchen facilities also is nearing completion. At this time, Karpen believes the 381 pandits who have already come to Fairfield are still being housed on the university campus, which renovated five residence halls to accommodate the pandits last year. The completed housing in Vedic City is being held for the new arrivals, he said. The campus in Vedic City is expected to have 200 homes arranged in six neighborhoods. Additionally, centrally located community buildings of 6,700 square feet are being built. The success of the Invincible America Assembly also has continued unabated. More than 1,900 practitioners of the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programs, including local residents, Vedic pandits and others from around the world and country, have been attending afternoon group program at the university's Patanjali and Bagabhrini domes. Karpen said the immediate goal is to gather 2,000 participants in the assembly.
