bound lotus kriya during pregnancy

Greetings all,

I have been practicing bound lotus kriya for two years plus a couple

months, and have recently found out that I am pregnant. I am

wondering if anyone has instructions for continuing bound lotus kriya

during pregnancy. Is it safe, and are there modifications that should

be made? Obviously I will not be able to put my forehead to the

ground in the later months. What can I do then to continue my

practice? I am hoping to at least reach my goal of 1000 days. This

will occur in August, when I am eight months pregnant.

Thank you,

Anna

Sat Nam Anna,

Regarding Bound Lotus Kriya - One can even teach this is "GENTLE"

yoga class, as all we are doing is maintaining an internal alignment and

simply "leaning" in the right direction.

Keep your internal alignment constant, if you lose it, you are

pushing too hard. I hold a physical posture that I can maintain, without

any great "pain", for 20 min. Work deeply within your spine and keep

your heart open to receive the blessings of the pose and the healing it

offers to you without attachment to the "perfection" of the posture.

With regard to pregnancy, I'd leave that up to what you are experiencing

in your body. As you noted, you will obviously have to modify how far

forward you are going to bend. Make sure to use

pillows/cushions/bolsters to support your forehead, increasing the

height as time goes on.

Have you been doing it with Snatam's "Re Man...." chant?

Congratulations on your steadiness,

Dharam Singh

Note to other folks:

You can REALLY injure your ligaments and tendons if you push its have

worked with people who have injured themselves trying to do it

(including myself trying to do a full lotus). Don't push it!!!

Ligaments do not heal as easily as muscles....be cool yogis.

I did it safely throughout mine, but I was advised by GuruPrem

Singh, a posture master, not to do it post-natal because your

ligaments are soft and can easily get out of alignment and

overstretched. I was doing it a while before he told me to stop a

while. I didn't have any problems but I'm super flexible. Still, I

did stop.
