Guest guest
NAMASTE I have a goal of relating all the practices, techniques, and knowledge from the Hindu scriptures to daily life. In a very concrete way I want to understand and apply this knowledge to help myself and others reach the goal of self realization. Fortunately, Maa and Swami present their teachings in exactly that light: practical knowledge to improve one's life, and lead one to God. Swami has been presenting the Gita with that focus. Tonight at Gita study, I thought about how daily practice of the pujas and chanting that Maa and Swami have taught has effected and changed my life. For example, in order to perform puja, one takes a sankalpa, makes a firm commitment, and starts worship. Now one has other tasks to perform, and obligations, and time is short: what to do? Stop, or rush, or let my mind wander to the worldly thoughts running around my brain? Or......? Sit straighter, breath deeper, pray with more sincerity and focus on the mantras. More thoughts come. Mind wanders. Bring back to the mantras. Why do I do puja? Why don't I just get up and tend to business? I took a sankalpa. I must stay, it is a priviledge to talk to the Lord, and deeper my relationship with MYSELF. And, it is so important to teach the body, mind, and heart discipline. As Swami says: freedom comes thru discipline, not freedom from discipline. When worship is complete, and the mind is still and the heart is peaceful, now I can take those qualities and I have the priviledge of serving my clients, and deepening my relations with God in them and sharing the Godness in me. I am writing this to remind my small self why this is so important. I hope this strikes some chord in you. The world wants to pull us out, and mesmorize us, fill us so full of noise and data that we forget who we are. Then the ego wins. If I can spend every free moment saying mantras, then, when I work in the world, the mind and heart will be full of sweet mantras, and less likely to be overshadowed. This is the gift of Gita and Chandi and Maa and Swami. This is how they live in this world. Our teachers know their divinity. I want to know mine. Jai Maa Jai Swami love, vishweshwar
