At the risk of opening up this to and fro topic with strong views on either

view here is a point on consideration.

It is clear that the primary reason why bulls are being slaughtered is

because there is no economics to justify their working. The bulls are being

replaced with tractors and trucks, in order to live a philosophy of avoiding

implication in the slaughter industry we should also avoid all food produced

by tractor or transported by truck etc.......Clearly this is not a practical

suggestion.....Dont you see how selective the philosophy of milk abstenation

is?

We should purify our milk and the cows who gave it by offering it and at the

same time we should do something to support Cow protection and certainly at

least this should start with the nearest goshallas. Practically speaking all

the western ISKCON goshallas are on the verge of capitulation and basically

for the reason that the goshalla workers are expected to only be volunteers.

Cow protection must be in the hands of persons who are dependant on it for

their livlihood if it at all is going to be sustainable.

As we would not pay the real price directly for naturally produced milk we

should at least pay some regular amount of money to our local goshalla to

offset our milk bought from non-devotee sources.

We need to purify our milk purchasing by offering it to Krishna and by

supporting financially our most local goshalla. Supporting the goshalla will

mean that a large proportion of the donated money will go to pay for the

labour of the cow protecting devotees. If the cow protectors cannot maintain

their families from cow protection it is unlikely they will remain cow

protectors primarlily. They will do something else with their time

tomaintain their families.

Dont boycot milk - Offer the milk to Krishna and support your nearest

goshalla.

Dont boycot tractor and truck produced food - offer the food to krishna and

support you local goshalla so they can grow food with oxen

Actually the primary reason bulls are being slaughtered is because people

want to eat beef, not because of economics which is really secondary. To

boycott tractors and trucks is kind of indirect and not to the point so it

doesnt equate with the abstention from milk of exploited dairy cows.

In this area where I live tractors are not used at all but farmers

heartlessly trade their old oxen to the cattle traders for young ones and

of course they are slaughtered. Also in Cuba they work oxen all the time

but they still eat them too and in early pioneer days in USA they had only

oxen and horses but they killed and ate them too so usefulness does not

mean they wont eventually kill them unless they come to the platform of

civilised human life. So preaching is the need of the day.

Devotees need to be reminded about the torture of dairy cows . Otherwise

they go on drinking shop milk thinking its ok or not thinking at all.

Devotees do need to support their local goshalla , and even more ,make new

ones and go sadans and turn to agriculture and support cowherd families

with all efforts and

resources. No brahminical culture without cow protection, and drinking shop

milk doesnt belong to either category. Goseva ki jai
