Guest guest
Namaste I asked Swami to define meditation because I read a number of posts discussing a range of techniques and experiences. So, Swami gave a beautiful, powerful, and short summary of all the various techniques know to mankind. I will try to summarize his words as clearly as possible: "when you love someone, you pay attention to them. The more you pay attention, the closer you become, until, you come into union with them. That is meditation. The process of coming into union with your belowed. Whether you sit in meditation and chant a mantra, or chant the Chandi, you are focusing on your beloved with the goal of coming into union. Union is the goal, meditation is one technique to reach that goal." In the context of that conversation, Swami stated that learning to meditate, the specific technique of sitting with eyes closed with a mantra, typically is performed by a teacher, face to face with the student. We know that other techniques that Maa and Swami have given us to experience that state of Union, such as puja, homa, chanting, can be taught by written communications, videos, etc. While it is a stretch for the teacher and student, it can be done. And the student can go forward and practice the puja, etc., and develop their relationship with God. I offer this post in the hopes that we can all understand the term "meditation", from the point of view of Maa and Swami. Each of us has our own unique relationship with Maa and Swami, and each of us knows in our hearts what techniques attract us, and hold our interest, as we move towards the goal of union with the Divine. I hope that our realtionship in this club will help each of us to grow closer to each other, to Them, and to God.
