Kalam calls for research in Vedas

Friday February 2 2007 11:11 IST MANTRALAYAM: The wealth of

scientific information in Sanskrit literature should be explored by

carrying out

research in the Vedas, President A P J Abdul Kalam said on Thursday.

"The four Vedas, especially Atharvana Veda should be studied

thoroughly so as to

reap benefits out of it in the fields of medicine, flight sciences,

material

sciences and related fields, he said during his interaction with the

students of

Sri Guru Sarvabhouma Sanskrit Vidya Peetam and Parimala High School

here.

Lauding the students for performing Sandhya Vandanam (offering

prayers to Sun)

thrice every day, Kalam said that spiritualism always acted like a

bridge in

connecting the minds of different people. He suggested that the

Sanskrit

Vidyapeetham can take up preserving ancient palm-leaf texts in

collaboration

with Bangalore-based Indian Institute of Sciences which was piloting

a digital

library project.

He played an audio CD that highlighted the importance of the Vedas

and how they

nourished human minds, their memory and intellect. He donated Rs 5

lakh to the

institution for promoting Vedic education.

Earlier, Kalam was welcomed with Poornakhumbam at Guru Raghavendra

Swamy temple.

He also had the darshan. Present pontiff Sushmweendra Teertha Swami

was present.
