Guest guest
Namaste Thank you Dr. Yadu. Is Hari similar to 'All-powerful?' Peace in The Oneness, Yoshe >"ymoharir" <ymoharir > >advaitin >advaitin > Re: (: Hari? >Fri, 09 Feb 2007 18:55:26 -0000 > >Namste Doug: > >eaning of term Hari is found in harivamsha (3.88.44) : >- harasi prANino deva tato haririti >smR^itiH | > >Meaning - Since He takes away the lives of people (at the time of >praLaya), He is called 'Hari'. > >Regards, > >Dr. Yadu > >advaitin, "doug revelle" <mdrdsr41 wrote: > > > > Please > > What does Hari mean? > > Thank you, > > Peace in The Oneness, > > Yoshe > > > > > _______________ >From predictions to trailers, check out the MSN Entertainment Guide to the Academy Awards® http://movies.msn.com/movies/oscars2007/?icid=ncoscartagline1
Guest guest
Thank you Dr. Yadu-ji ! May i please provide additional meanings for the Name 'Hari' one of the names of Lord Mahavishnu ? This name 'Hari ' occurs in Sri vishnu Sahasaranama as Nama 656! The term 'hara' refers to green color. BhagavAn's words from mahA bhArata are given in support by SrI BhaTTar: iDopahUtam …….varNaSca me harih SreshThah tasmAd harir-iti smRtah || (mahA. SAnti. 343.39) "My superior complexion is green, and therefore I am called Hari". One is reminded of the familiar pASuram "paccai mA-malai pOl mEni…) (tirumAlai 2). Pacchai in tamizh means green color! b) SrI aNNa'ngarAcArya gives the interpretation "ArtigaLai harippavar" - He who removes the distress of His devotees. c) (samsAram) harati iti harih - He who wards off samsAra with its cause from His devotees is harih (SrI Samkara). Alternatively, pApAnAm harati iti harih - He who wards off the sins of His devotees. d) SrI satyadevo vAsishTha extends the anubhavam to include bhagavAn's destruction of the world at the time of pralaya, and His destruction of the darkness in our minds always. (as explained by Dr. Yaduji) The dharma cakram writer observes that the sight of green gives a feeling of peace to the mind; the thought of Hari, the green-hued One, similarly gives peace to the mind. The "hari nAma" is chanted whenever one starts anything auspicious, and this is to remove all obstacles and sins that may be committed in the process. SrI rAdhAkRshNa SAstri notes that in kali santaraNa Upanishad, the repetition of the 16 nAma-s in the following familiar chant is prescribed for the removal of all sins caused by kali: hare rAma hare rAma rAma rAma hare hare | hare kRshNa hare kRshNa kRshNa kRshNa hare hare || (kali santaraNa upa. 6.2) -dAsan kRshNamAcAryan source http://home.comcast.net/~chinnamma/sahasra In Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition Hari is a name of both Krishna or Vishnu meaning 'he who steals, or takes away'- referring to how Krishna takes away all distress and anxieties, and lovingly robs the heart of His devotee. During religious festivals it is a common occurrence to hear people call out Haribol ! Haribol ! meaning 'please call out the name Hari; the Hare Krishna mantra mentioned above contains the name in the vocative. Hari Aum! advaitin, "ymoharir" <ymoharir wrote: > > Namste Doug: > > eaning of term Hari is found in harivamsha (3.88.44) : > - harasi prANino deva tato haririti > smR^itiH | > > Meaning - Since He takes away the lives of people (at the time of > praLaya), He is called 'Hari'. > > Regards, > > Dr. Yadu > > ---
Guest guest
Namste: Can there be anything more significant then one's own life !? If the life itself is not there then does anything really matters ? That is why our shastra always recommend "aatmaanam satatam raxeta" Similar thoughts were expressed by sage Vishvamita when he eat "dog meat" in order to survive. He goes on to say "jivoitammaraNaata shryo jivan dharmavaapnuyaat". Meaning - Better to be living as dharma is for living only. May be that is why surrendering to the highest possible order "hari" may have been introduced. Guest guest
Doug: The moment you mention the name of 'Hari' ( also a name for Lord Krishna ) i go ecstatic ... Yes .... HE IS ALL POWERFUL ! Shaktimaan and Smt . Radharani is His 'shakti' ! i would encourage you to read chapter 10 and chapter 11 of the Srimad Bhagavat Gita to know about the 'glory' of Lord Krishna ( his many vibutis) Sri Ramji has penned many posts on this SUBJECT- see archives! here , i reproduce verse 38, chapter 11 tvam adi-devah purusah puranas tvam asya visvasya param nidhanam vettasi vedyam ca param ca dhama tvaya tatam visvam ananta-rupa Srila Prabhupada's translation You are the original Personality, the Godhead. You are the only sanctuary of this manifested cosmic world. You know everything, and You are all that is knowable. You are above the material modes O limitless form! This whole cosmic manifestation is pervaded by You! SWAMI CHINMAYANANDA'S TRANSLATION You are the Primal God, the Ancient PURUSHA; You are the Supreme Refuge of this universe. You are the knower, the knowable, and the Abode-Supreme. By Thee is the universe pervaded, O Being of Infinite forms. DOUGJI, PLEASE GO TO FILES SECTION AND READ SWAMIJI'S COMMENTARY ON THIS VERSE ! It is exquisite . YOU WILL LOVE IT AS MUCH AS I DID ! Yes ! MAHAVISHNU IS ALL POWERFUL ! may i please tell you about the etymology of the word 'Vishnu' ? Etymology The traditional Hindu explanation of the name Vishnu involves the root viœ, meaning "to settle, to enter", or also (in the Rigveda) "to pervade", and a suffix nu, translating to approximately "the All-Pervading One". For example Adi Sankara, in Swami Tapasyananda's translation of his commentary on Vishnu Sahasranama (Ramakrishna Math publications) states derivation from this root, with a meaning "presence everywhere" ("As He pervades everything, vevesti, He is called Visnu"). Adi Sankara states (regarding Vishnu Purana, 3.1.45): "The Power of the Supreme Being has entered within the universe. The root Viœ means 'enter into.'" SO , vishnu or Hari ( both one and the same ) is all powerful! DOUGJI , VERSE 20 OF BAJA GOVINDAM STOTRA READS bhagavad.h giitaa kiJNchidadhiitaa gaNgaa jalalava kaNikaapiitaa . sakRidapi yena muraari samarchaa kriyate tasya yamena na charchaa Let a man read but a little from Giitaa, drink just a drop of water from the Ganges, worship Murari (Govinda) just once. He then will have no altercation with Yama. (Stanza attributed to dR^iDhabhakta.) YES! tHE THREE Gs ! Gita , Ganges and Govinda ! ADD THE FOURTH ONE 'GURU ' WE ARE IN 'WONDERLAND' - LAND OF PERENNIAL HAPPINESS ! WHEN YOU TAKE SHELTER OF THESE 4 Gs ... Dougju , you are full of 'ananda' ( bliss) always smiling ! i admire that ! When you do Hari nama sankirtan , you will smile even more for Hari removes all sorrows and anxieties ! The vaikunta is here on earth when you meditate on lord Hari daily! a hindu prayer goes thus Akasath patitantoyam Yatha gacchati sagaram. Sarva deva namaskarah Sri Kesavam pratigacchati. Even as the drops of rain Reaches the ocean Prayers to all deities Reach the Supreme Being. (SRI Vishnu) Hari Aum Tat Sat! ps - to sing the glories of Sri Vishnu , ONE CAN BREAK VOWS ALSO ! SMILE !
