Yes, the list can be confusing to a new entrant. There are so many threads being pursued. Let me offer a few suggestions and try to guide. Everything depends on what you know already and what you want to achieve. Without acquainting myself about these I am writing this. So my suggestions below may not all apply to you. Please take what appeals to you. This list is now more than seven years old and so much water has flown under the bridge. If you are a beginner in advaita, you may have to familiarise yourself with some fundamentals -- both jargon and content. Our present chief has started a marathon project of defining fundamental words and giving introductory lessons through the pen of several expedrts on this list. These are available in the files section under the heading Advaita for the novice. Remember, the project has started only on 1st January 2007 and so there is a long way to go. Go to advaitin and pick up Advaita for the novice-2007 An alternative for a beginner would be to go to http://www.advaitin.net/Advaitin%20Discussions.htm where various discussion topics and articles are listed. Choose what you think interests you. If you are a beginner you may want to begin with those that say "For Beginners". In any case, any thread that you pick up, either from the above or from the Messages section, you will do well to start from the beginning of the thread rather than jump into the middle of it -- unless of course you are already well acquainted with advaita. Lest this should become too long, I shall stop here. If you have any specific questions, certainly you are welcome to ask them and several list members would be willing and ready to respond. PraNAms to all newcomers. profvk
