Guest guest
Sat Nam! I would like to thank everyone for being so supportive of my coming back to KY&M and this list. I have been very much enjoying it. I am very excited to be going back to teaching; my first class starts on Tuesday, 3/7. Wonder of wonders, though; I received an email this morning from someone wanting to register for the class and it turns out she was a student of mine at a local YMCA when I taught 6 years ago! I am taking this as a sign from the Universe that I am on the right path of my spiritual journey. Also, I had been reading about pain in the knees and back with great interest. I understand that sometimes these pains are caused by chakra blockages, stress and other issues. But what if they are caused my actual and real medical problems? I had knee surgery 1 1/2 years ago and the knee will never be 100%, also I have a herniated disc in my back as well as spinal stenosis. These are real medical obstacles that interfere with my life as they cause pain. I am doing Sadhana again for the 1st time in many years - chose to go back to basics with the Spinal Flex Series, which I will do for 40 days. It makes my back feel better for a short period of time. So, I guess the question would be, what if the pain is from a real medical problem and not from other internal causes? I look forward to hearing what you all think. Guest guest
Devta Kaur, You bring up a good point about the pain being from a "real medical " problem. I have had issues with my knees as well; both of them. Both conditions were brought on by physical trauma as well as years of use and degeneration. Prior to the physical injuries I experienced periodic pain, which I felt was the onset of arthritus.EventuallyI had arthoscopic surgery to deal with the situation; the most recent being 2 weeks ago. It's been 1 1/2 yrs. since that first surgery and I have been pain free in that knee. I expect, and hope for the same results from this last one. I do think it's important to live a yogic lifestyle, but also not to abandon the standard medical route in those cases where physical damage may be to blame. Less pain and discomfort certainly allow for a much more enjoyable Kundalini Yoga practice. Let the doctor take care of these kinds of medical situations if there is a need for a doctor. Your job is to focus on everything but the problem. (Yoga is a way to do that as long as one does not aggravate a physical issue). Be a kid in the sense of their innocence and love for life. The slightest focus on any problem gives it energy, recalls them to life. Dealing with physical problems or diseases is akin to saying "but there is a devil out there..." That's a choice, but why when there is infinite beauty and love out there and the simple focus on beauty and love changes our moods so completely, why fill ourselves with anything else? That does not mean to avoid feeling the pain!!! It only means to stop interpreting it to mean that it is only getting worst. In fact as soon as you think yourself healed, the pain you feel is part of the healing. Unless you start doubting it. That's the test of physical issues. Where do you choose to put your awareness and energy. It takes a risk, a dive into the unknown... but I have talked to people who have healed their spine, alcoholism, the opposite of diabetes (she needed to take sugar every morning), arthritis, depression, relationship, drug abuse, one has helped heal his brother from a brain condition that made him feel so overwhelmed he could only read 6 year old material and the pain he felt was so overwhelming he wanted to commit suicide, my friend simply asked God to take care of him and was able to let go of his own agenda, the next morning his brother was healed!) ... and even more with this very method. One more point. Deepak Choprah mentions the case of people with multiple personalities and each personality one has a different disease or no disease. When the personality changes, the disease changes automatically. The body does not keep any symptom of the disease that corresponds to the personality that left for the current one. We think of disease and physical conditions as something that is part of us, but it is only part of our mindset, our personality, it is only our personality that gives it any reality. So if we change our personality for the truth, we heal. Kundalini Yoga is a technology to do just that. And its best use is to seek truth instead of trying to change anything!!! The truth, in turn, heals you!
