For most addictive behaviors, recovery has to be understood and taken on as a process. Progress may seem uncertain at times, but dedication and discipline to both are highly necessary else its easy to fall back into old patterns.

Another factor for his recovery will also involve you preparing yourself for the change. As the person goes through AA, they will break old habits and patterns and relationships too, in the process if these are retrogressive to their well-being or new habits. Often times, in association to an alcoholic, the associates tend to become habituated to negative behavior patterns and other regressionary attitudes. The nature of habit is that it doesn't want to change and the well-wishers can by this rule, become obstacles since they are unable to comprehend the change. Recommendation would be that the supporters also join the AI-Anon group so that you can understand how to better deal with these new and improving patterns.

For the person going through AA and getting of addiction, the single most powerful and helpful tool can be meditation as it is the only safe and healing method that allows you to deal with the powerful emotions that will ensue as the person begins the recovery as well as the ability to deal with the cravings of wanting that one-more-drink/drug as they go through the withdrawals (depending on how severe it is for him). I would highly encourage him to goto a meditation practice and be involved with it.

Best of luck to you and your boyfriend! It will be a rather challenging journey but one that can lead to the betterment of both your lives if properly addressed..

meetings for support, but I was wondering if anyone had any health tips

that I might encorporate into our lives to help him along the way the

best I can. Thanks!
