brajeshwara das
Pay off the mortgages for all the temples I could in my Math. Then the devotees could focus more on preaching. Funding book publishing would be another thing, plus I always wanted to open a restaurant that distributed Prasadam and only asked for donations. Maybe a chain. And just for me move closer to our Ashram in Santa Cruz.

bija
I would probably suffer a materialistic urge....and jump for joy! Then when I gained composure I would probably think of something more practical to do with it. But don't worry Pankaja... (I can only speak for myself...that'll never be the day.) Pankaja_Dasa
Haha. Maybe one day. I would personally buy Property.
brajeshwara das
I would probably suffer a materialistic urge.... Yep, that's the risk. I may have some high stuff in mind now but once I have the possibility of buying that new Ferrari, ya know, who could say what I might do? I'm in this place essentially because I did have that opportunity for the most valuable thing and chose the materialistic route anyway. Maybe I already have a billion pounds.... of anarthas
bija
I may have some high stuff in mind now but once I have....quote by braj Yeah I know what ya mean....I would like to think I would send fifty percent of it to GuruMaharaja (and help extend his preaching mission). But to be honest maybe there is a reason Krsna hasn't laid that much cash on me thus far....maybe I would be better off without it. (and in a way I find happiness in scraping through financially each week - maybe I never really aspired for the ferrari deep down). My older brother is very wealthy (recently he purchased a top of the line mercedes-benz). So maybe when he visits oneday I will ask him to escort me around in it- but before I jumped in I would get dressed up in my saffron cloth - and do the holy man in the 'benz' (rolls-royce) thing. That would turn a few heads in town wouldn't it! I think this ability to accrue large sums of money develops in us at a young age. Almost as if we have the factors built into us. My brother has always been competitive and tight with possessions. Even as a young child he would not part with twenty cents unless there was a profit invloved. I am sure these desires for material opulence are inherent. I was talking to him just last year. I was ill at the time (often I have experienced poor health). He asked how I was going and I expressed that I was not able to receive better treatment (naturopathic treatment) due to lack of finance. A few days later he rang up my parents and complained to them that he felt I was trying to solicit money off of him. The thought did not even cross my mind. It is sad in a way. I would rather have peanuts than be so caught up with the cash!
Guest guest
go on a diet. Oh, brit money. sorry. Is money in pounds in australia, bija? mahak Actually, I had millions at one time, but it all went away. Boy, if ISKCON only knew, they would've been a lot nicer to me. Once, I asked a person to give me $200,000,000 to finance a multi-media production for my novel, "Kipu'ka", but he said he'd only go for $20,000,000, so I told him not now, maybe later. Money, its all relative, ya know. When I was a brahmacari, and me mudda sent $10 once in a while, that was the wealthiest I ever felt. Ive made $2,000,000 since that time, 32 years ago, and was once bringing home $800 a day, but that $10 was worth much more, the strawberry kefir I bought with it was so much better than the other junk I bought over the years. bija
Is money in pounds in australia, bija? quote by max I don't know much about money Mahak. It is dollars here. The notes are a type of plastic (long lasting durable substance). I know if you put them in the oven they shrink to real tiny bills. But ofcourse being so tiny they will not accept them over the counter.
Pankaja_Dasa
Ok like the idea about the Ferrari. I'd prolly spend money on building a Mansion on an island in the sea. Or maybe spend it on building a GIANT Temple in the UK. (GIANT!)
brajeshwara das
OK, so here I'm really dreaming... I would maybe start a mobile home park for devotees, with the homes arranged in a tilak shape, with a Tulasi garden/greenhouse where the tulasi leaf would be. In the center another garden and maybe space for a cow. Mobile homes only because I don't know how to build proper houses, it would be quicker that way. Devotees could buy them back from me at cost if they like so they own their own place so they don't feel at anyone's whim. I'd make the land a non-profit corporation. I'd hire a proper ksatriya-like property manager who would keep everything running well and people from going totally feral. A central gazeebo that could serve as an outdoor temple would also be there, though I would hope a proper pujari would be available and only have a permanent deity installation if my Gurudeva wanted it. It would be for all devotees, not just those following perfectly. Like a home away from home where devotees could associate but not have to maintain the strict standards like living in a proper ashram. I know lots of devotees that can't live in the temple for various reasons, this would be for them/me. Watsonville Ca. maybe.
brajeshwara das
Maybe this would be a gryhasta ashrama on second thought, where families could bring up kids in the association of the devotees, mrdanga lessons, school. Hare Krishna.
bija
THe only thing that concerns me about minimum income etc. is experiencing old age as devotee. You know...not being able to afford an appropriate retirement home (to be taken care of when the body starts shutting down). It would be nice to have access to funds to have this organised. Otherwise all that would be available here is a place where they feed you corned beef, poatatoes and peas and things like that. Maybe braj....your dream village could include retirement homes for devotees to make sure this doesn't happen (corned beef and potatoes) when they lose self-empowerment to some degree. Nice plates of Maha-prasada before afternoon nap would be paradise. Oh...and ofcourse some Hari-bhajan instead of the old time parish choir sing-along! bija
Ah, definitely Prabhu! What would a mobile home park be without senior citizens? quote by braj yes...and a few cats and dogs and a bag of vegan animal treats to treat them up with and (stale bread to feed the ducks) to keep us oldies content. If ever you get your dream up and running I'm coming over! It would be for all devotees, not just those following perfectly. quote by braj And I especially like this idea. A spirtual home for all. Just perfect! Who needs a billion pounds when we can partake in 'Brajeshwara Village', where the only currency needed is a warm heart and joyful song. Just perfect! brajeshwara das
Would you consider...'Kalpavriksha Homes'. It doesn't really roll off the tongue, but I appreciate the sentiment. Maybe that could be the name of the non-profit org?
bija
Goodness you really got me thinking now. Maybe we could raise some funds for 'Tilaka Falls" by utilizing a cross country 'food chain' initiative. Maybe a chain of takeaway food stores called....'Halava Heaven'. With a promotion slogan like... "When you are in a rush to Vaikuntha...please do consider a quick stop-over at Halava Heaven."
bija
or maybe tee-shirts for the counter staff (at halava heaven) with the imprints: "If you got billion pound(s)...we accept tip(s)."
Guest guest
First, Id do the IRS thing (after I hid some in offshore accounts, no pounds, rather Euros), which would help pay to kill all the po folk who would now be my dire enemy. Next, Id invest in a theme park. Id name it YUMAS DUTY. The rides would be called Armageddon, gilgamesh, lucifers hammer, and wormwood. The train ride around the park would a journey thru the cedars of lebanon to the blasted buildings of beirut. This would be a great tax write-off. Then, only having one billion left, Id make my movie, and all profits would go to my vaisnava godbrothers who have real schools to further this movement. BTW, this movie will win an oscar and top off any previous blockbusters. This would only leave me with 500 million. Maybe then Ill get my truck fixed, have my horrible driveway surfaced and paved. Maybe Ill hook up to the county grid so I dont have to start the generator everytime I want to watch Castle in the Sky or the Powerpuff Girls. Maybe Ill finish the shower house. (but maybe not, whats ten more years). I wont quit my job, I wouldnt do that to the dead dudes who now depend on me to save them from 2-4-D. Moss killer is not what they had in mind when they laid to rest. Thats what all the lotto winners say, I wont quit my job, but really, I got a great one. So, the real winners if I get this money are my godbrothers and godsisters who are really doing samkirtana, because profits from the movie will far exceed any original expenditure. Asramas will spring up all over the world, fully equipped with new harmoniums (the real good ones) and real clay mrdangas. ribol, ys, mahaksadasa
bija
If I had a billion pounds I would do five things: 1: assist Gurumaharaja's mission. 2: assist parents and family. 3: buy a nice house in the bush outside of Murwillumbah (NSW Australia). In Murwillumbah and surrounding area there are three Hare Krsna movements (Iskcon, Sri Caitanya Saraswat Math, and Srila Narayana Maharaja's group). So why not one more - Nityananda Gauranga Bhakti Sangha! (Me and my dog reckon that would be real nice. To be able to express externally the Hare Krsna lifestyle, with simple living and good association.) 4: travel to India each year for service. 5: assist the needy. somebody....please help me wake up from this blissful dream... Guest guest
Depends on... a billion pounds of what? Actually, if we are speaking of British currency here... I would finance a new Krishna movement for those who are confined to fringietude in the presently existing ones, due to incompatibility with established institutional standards. To engage us less perfect ones.
