krsna
Directly initiated by His Divine Grace 1966-77, who had the good fortune to have had the vapu darshan of Srila Prabhupada? Will there be a greater scope for preaching, especially for the "2nd generation" devotees? Will the discrimination of Prabhupada disciple and non-Prabhupada disciple cease? theist
The scope for preaching Krsna consciousness is always wide open, Iskcon or no Iskcon. There was no Iskcon when Srila Prabhupada arrived in the US. The bhakti potency for preaching comes to and through the individual devotee as empowered by Sri Krsna and not from any institutional structure. The label Iskcon or Gaudiya Math are not important but rather the potency of the teachings of Lord Caitanya' the universal guru, is important . As Lord Caitanya is the universal guru are we to expect that Iskcon or any other instituiton willl be the only sole repository of His mission? Prabhupada's disciples may become empowered to grow their own branch. Some already have. This is desirable for the wide and continued propagation of Krsna consciousness. So the prime need is for spreading the essential vani that Srila Prabhupada left for the people of earth and not on proping up the instituiton. It would be wonderful to see the institution preserved as that was part of Srila Prabhupada's work, but we must remember Iskcon was built as a tool to spread the teaching of Krsna consciousness and not the prime focus. Tools may wear out in time but the importance is to keep the timeless teaching themselves active and that may require acquiring more tools. Guest guest
Will there be a greater scope for preaching, especially for the "2nd generation" devotees? When they are gone, it will be the time to implement some much needed reforms in Iskcon. The current leadership has no courage to address very important questions and issues that face our movement. gHari
Would I not award my absolute faith and love to the writer of As It Is, whether he was of the present or past or future? There will be my faith always, and anyone who demonstrates that they have come victoriously through the process As It Is, then they are my heroes. I have high hopes for ISKCON's future, for the foundation is indeed As It Is.
theist
"So this is difficulty, that we are not very much interested in hearing. And that is the main business. Our bhakti begins: sravanam kirtanam vishnoh [sB 7.5.23]. We have to hear and we have to speak. But if we are not interested in hearing and speak, then it will be the same thakura-bari(?), simply formula. That's all. And gradually it will be stopped. Unless there is life of sravanam kirtanam, these big, big buildings, temples, will become burden. So if we are, if we want to create burden for future, then we may give up this hearing and chanting and sleep very nicely. It will be burden. Galagraha. Not sri-vigraha, but galagraha. Galagraha. Sri-vigraha means worshipable Deity. So if we give up this sravanam kirtanam vishnoh, then it will be thought that "Our Guru Maharaja has given a burden in the neck, galagraha." This is the danger. So we must be very much alert in sravanam kirtanam. Otherwise all this labor will be futile. This building will be only the nest, nest for the doves and the pigeons. That is the danger. That is being done. Nobody is interested. Such, such things..." -lecture SB 1.
