Guest guest
Hinduism is a family of four main denominations - Saivism, Shaktism, Vaishnavism, Smartism Could someone explain, what do these have in common, and what are the main differences. Guest guest
Do these (Saivism, Shaktism, Vaishnavism, Smartism) all have a same look to at least these concepts: Prominent themes include Dharma (ethics/duties), Samsāra (The continuing cycle of birth, life, death and rebirth), Karma (action and subsequent reaction), and Moksha (liberation from samsara). or is there a difference even in this concepts? Guruvani
You are asking a question that can't be answered without a rather involved dissertation. If you do a simple Google search on these 4 different sects you can find considerable information. The Wikipedia will have some reasonably good descriptions. However, the term "Hindu" became an unpopular term during the political independence movement, especially amongst Bengali political leaders and some religious leaders as well. The term is widely used, but some of the most prominent religious and political leaders of the Bengali intelligentisia have rejected the use of the term since the days of Mahatma Gandhi and the move towards Indian independence from the British.
