That was a bit of a joke for the purpose of rhetoric. Suicide is not "sanctioned" by any mainstream faiths as far as I know. The Shastras *do* describe great yogis who can leave their body through the crown chakra at will. In a sense, you could call this "sanctioned suicide". Of course, there *are* descriptions (if memory serves) of souls having to exist as ghosts when they willfully kill their own bodies. Suicide is not recommended to anybody!
