Them
I've just listened to Michael Cremo's radio interview during which he mentioned that nether "undeground" regions described in Puranas are ilumined by the "jewels on the heads of serpents." Now, don't you think that rishis actually described modern street lamps? They look exactly like giant cobras with shining jewels on their heads. Perhaps we shouldn't take everything written in Puranas literally, especially parts dealing with Kali yuga description.

Murali_Mohan_das
Modern street lamps? Electricity was not invented then. There was no lightning, eh? "Electricity" doesn't get "invented", does it? It always is. How do we know no other previous civilizations have learned to generate and use electricity? There have been many partial dissolutions since the formation of the Earth, haven't there?
rsrowland
Some rishi could of had prophetic visions or dreams of the future and wrote stories about it not knowing exactly what they were.
