suchandra
Is chastity a symptom of a spiritual advanced society or "just" a quality in the mode of goodness? Examples of Extreme Chastity, Bhagavad-gita 1.40 - London, July 28, 1973 "[...]Her husband became so poverty-stricken. He was king, but he became later on so poverty-stricken that he had no sufficient cloth. The husband and wife was putting on the same cloth, half and half. So still, still there was no divorce. You see. Still the woman did not consider… She was also king’s daughter. But the husband has fallen down to so much poverty-stricken condition. “So why shall I live with him?” These are some of the extreme examples of chastity. Not to speak of olden days, I have seen in Bombay, in 1935 or ’34, on the roadside, there was a beggar. The beggar, the face was defaced. Might be some accident. His eyes and everything became defaced. He could not see, everything became useless. So he, he was sitting on the roadside, and his wife also, also sitting. But I saw that beggar was neat and clean. The wife was also neat and clean. The wife’s business was that to keep the husband always neat and clean and fresh and bring him there and again take him at home. Young woman. So I could understand that the wife is so chaste. She has not left such ugly husband. Because his face was defaced. And helping him. Because they require some money. So we have seen. There are many stories of chaste woman. Many stories. There was one disciple of Rāmānujācārya, a very poor. So Rāmānujācārya came in that poor disciple’s house and he saw there was no one in the house. So he thought: “What is this? This is my disciple’s house. He’s family man. Why there is none?” That means he could understand that the door is not locked. Door was closed only. Then he could understand that within the door his wife is there. Therefore he knocked the door, and there was response also, knocking, but she could not come out. That means she, she was so poor that she had no garment. She was keeping herself within the room, naked. So Rāmānujācārya could understand that “There is his wife. Maybe she has no sufficient clothing.” So immediately, his own cloth he gave her, within the room, and the woman came out, putting on that… And then offered obeisances. So he could understand the position. They were very, very poor. Even no clothing. So after putting on the cloth, she went to the grocer’s shop. Because Rāmānujācārya is there. She must receive. Grocer shop. The grocer knew that this woman is very woman, uh, very poor, so his business was to entice her. But she never agreed, although she was young. Now this woman went to the grocer’s shop that: “You know that I am very poor. I require immediately some grains, ghee, and other things. My Guru Mahārāja has come at home. I must receive. So tonight I agree with your proposal. Please give me. Even at the sacrifice of my chastity I want this.” So the grocer was very glad. “Oh, this woman, I have canvassed her, I have tried to induce her. She never agreed. And now she’s agreeing.” So: “All right, you take, whatever you like. Take.” So she was given all kinds of food grains, as much as she wanted. And she cooked and gave to the spiritual master and his associates, his servants. Everything was very nice. In the meantime, the husband came, working whole day. And he saw that everything was nicely done. “Guru Mahārāja is fed, and his associates, they’re fed.” So he asked his wife: “How did you get all these things?” Then she narrated the whole story. Then husband also said: “Yes, you have promised. All right. Take some prasādam and go to him. Because you have promised to meet him this evening. So go.” Then the grocer heard the whole story and his mind became changed. “Oh, such a chaste woman. Such a faithful… You are my mother. You take more ingredients, grains, as much as you like, you shall…”[...]
mahak
When one discusses chastity, I always think of the goddess of darkness, Lilith. Makes the christians go nuts when I praise her. Here's the stevie nicks version of the great lady who chose celebacy over that lusty adam. I also call her Yami, or simply Death. Created by the anger of Lord Brahma, she refused to kill, even when Siva and Brahma demanded such service. Now her job is to accept the dead when they reach her, and treat them with respect. mahaksadasa

When she saw the first man in Creation, Adam, she could only do one thing, to run away for good. Adam, who was offered a second wife, Eve, behaving like a conditioned soul: " This pretty much unknown woman, Lilith, created by God before Eve, must have somehow roughed up the situation of the church, God created a rebellious woman who left Adam? At least they knew how to solve that puzzle: Turning Lilith into a demoniac ghost: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilith#Lilith_in_the_Bible
mahak
It was equality, the last thing any church wants. Lilith was created from nothing, like adam, so there was no difference. Eve was created from adams body, thus an eternal possession. The great saints disregard this mysogeny. When Peter dismissed Mary Magdaline, Lord Jesus said they were equal. When other disciples tried the wife trip and if wives will still be dominated in heaven, Lord Jesus denied this, saying they were like angels. Funny, the church, even the coptics, say he said that he would turn Mary into a man, but this is also because of the inherant mysogeny built into language itself. All glories to the vedic literature, which denies mysogeny, defining Prkrti as female, and Purusa as the ONLY male. Unfortunately, even many vaisnava schools are cursed with the false identification of the body as the self, thus mysogeny is rampant in our house as well. ISKCON became terribly mysogenistic, despite Srila Prabhupadas teachings that even great males like arjuna and bhisma are actually female as well. Not bodies, not female in the bodily sense, but dominated by ADI PURUSA. Haribol mahaksadasa Funny how lilith is supposedly the great demon, yet eve is the one who lost paradise for adam
mahak
Posted on another site: This is a good topic. I will discuss with intent to show how a male dominated theocracy intentionally demeaned any female, by translation, interpretation, etc. Lets see thru the haze of such things. Lets get rid of the mysogeny existing in all religions. Perhaps the calling of Lilith a witch is like calling Mary Magdaline a whore. The latter is actually the Opulent Queen of Magdalia, the actual patron sainte of France. Lilith has a bad reputation, but is it just as false? Lets examine things from a different perspective. I come from a hindu tradition, where many of my heroes, if contemplated from a perspective of christian thought, would surely be classified as demoniac. The great God of Justice and death, Lord Yamaraja, is depicted as a grim reaper of sorrts, but devotees of the Supreme Lord Narayana accept Lord Yamaraja as an authority on how to develop love of the One Supreme God. Lord Siva is seen in a crematorium, covered with ashes, but his words are likened to the word of God Himself. His Wife, Durgadevi, would surely be considered a witch, especially in her form as Kali Ma, the ten armed warrior princess chopping off heads, wearing human skull garlands and always covered with blood, yet she is also the most chaste Parvarti devi. In fact, I fully believe that Lilith is none other than Durga devi, the goddess. These gods and goddesses have jobs to do. Lord Yamaraja removes souls from bodies at the time of death. Kali Ma is the justice for the hitlers and idi amins of the world. The main ingredients of rat poison are also in aspirin and heart medication. To remove a thorn, one uses a needle. To get rid of a diseased boil, one must stab the things and squeeze the blood out. Lilith did not tempt adam with the apple in the simple story, eve did. Who is the witch here? mahaksadasa<table class="tborder" id="post37016" align="center" border="0" cellpadding="6" cellspacing="1" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td class="thead" id="currentPost"> </td></tr><tr><td class="alt2" style="padding: 0px;"> </td></tr><tr><td class="alt1" id="td_post_37016"> <hr style="color: rgb(209, 209, 225);" size="1"> <!-- / icon and title --> <!-- message --> Alas. I am not pointing fingers at any particular church hierarchy, it is the norm accross the board. Only Judaism, some sects, are not affected. Others not affected have been wiped off the face of the earth, such as the Cathars of France. Romas are persecuted to a greater extent than the jews. There is a reason that Lilith is not mentioned. It is not because she isnt written about, it is because all the writings have been systematically purged by the great mysogeny movements, led by Constantine, a worshipper of Sol Invectus (the sun god) and the embarassment, Pope Sylvester. Their council in 325 AD destroyed much of the teaqchings and even the biographies, of Lord Jesus Christ. The have made the canon bible merely a handful of letters by a christian killer, Saul of Tarsus, and these letters create a political body of men as perpetual caretakers of the so-called christianity. They have a flawed system, because they cannot explain the references to OTHER books and ideas contained in the few books they deemed acceptable. Lord Jesus mentions the writings of Nicodemus in his teachings, but where is THAT book? Lilith is mentioned in Isaiah in passing, but why mention her at all if there is no full teaching of her influence. So we speculate, because the fires of censorship created Christianity in 325 AD. The writings of Mary, Salome, Magdalia, and even thomas and james, were tossed. That some have survived buried in clay pots for 1700 years (Nag Hamadhi, Kebra Nagast, et al) and have been studied does not embarass the modern followers of the sun god. The great crime of Lilith, that which casts her into the mysogenist witch camp, is that she is adams EQUAL. Equality is her position, as she and adam were made from the dirt, by the Supreme Lords hands. Now some fools would have you believe that God recognized his mistake and cast her out, but only fools accept imperfect gods prone to blunder. Eve, on the other hand, ios accepted as mother, yet she is the one who lost paradise for adam. She is the mutant made from the body of adam. Perhaps the descendents of the bones of adam should be discr5iminated, but this is not Liliths wishes. The hints of this evil, mysogeny, are still available for the discerning scholar. Lord Jesus rails against it, admonishing Peter for having such foolish and immature misconceptions. His disciples ask specifically if ones wife is still under his domination in His Kingdom, where he replies to their lame understanding by clearly stating the EQUALITY of men and women as EQUAL angels, transcendental to gender. The dominators of this world, the anti-christs, hate equality. They crush any movement going this route, it destroys their base. Naturally, they have made the EQUAL of Adam a pariah, made her a serpant, removed her name from the book of life. But just remember, those who still think the queen of Magdalia is a whore, the anti-christ is the one who may look like Christ. Lord Jesus even says about this future that many will pledge allegiance to His Name, yet fail to do the will of His Father, he rejects them. It was these anti-christs, like the great demon Cotton Mather, who burned the innocent descendents of the Equal Lilith at the stake, and their crime was not witchcraft, it was internal vision of the Kingdom of the Supreme Lord that their fear turned against. (Turns out 80 percent of the victims of the Salem Witch Hunts were herbalists, healers, visionaries, and bakers who had moldy stocks of rye (a hallucinigen that was later developed into LSD). There may be a few here that think their forum has been invaded by a devil worshipper. Maybe a devil's advocate, but I just ask, "Who do you worship?" Is not blind faith as dangerous as blind rejection? Is not fanaticism, the idea of killing all those who dont believe as I do, the true evil of the world? Is there any idea of God really in any of the world's male dominated and controlled religions? Me? I hang with the Cathars, the Abyssinians, the rastafarians. I am a disciple of a guru who broke the back of mysogeny and was often rejected by his own for daring to do so. (However, his legacy is now wracked with the same "good ol boy" mysogenistic practices, I guess they want recognition by the world body of religions, a bunch of fat rich, dying, fearful men). I honor the great queens like Magdalia, Mekeda, Kunthi, Draupadi, Arci, and Shakunthala. My life is empty without taking shelter of the goddesses. The centerpost of my theology is not an old god casting thunderbolts, always listing my sins to avenge. I worship a divine couple, very well represented in the West due to My guru, Radha-Krsna. When we look at a picture of Krsna, there is His queen always by His side. We dont push her away to worship her Lord, we worship her together with her Lord. St John the Divine had a vision of Lilith. She crushes the forces that keep us from the paradise she was never banished from. Adam and Eve were the ones to told to go take a hike for pretending they were god, Lilith always recognizes her relationship with the Supreme Lord. Just food for thought on a monday morning.
