cbrahma
First what do you understand by meditation? Sitting in a particular posture 'asana' and focusing the mind? The mind needs something to focus on and traditionally mantras (literally 'mind releaser') have been used for that purpose. I have found the Maha Mantra - 'Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna, Krishna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama, Rama, Hare Hare' to be very effective. theist
Dear All, I would like to start with meditation, dunno where to start with, can anybody please help with basics? Thanks in advance Vikram The most practical type of meditation for this present industrialized age where silent concentration is next to impossible is meditation by and on transcendental sound. To chant repetetively the names of God either to one self or congregationaly is easy and most productive. The spiritually power is in the names themselves. This is called mantra meditation. Mantra means mind delivering. No need for trying to sit and still the mind jsut repeat the names of the Lord. Many names of God have been combined in a format conducive to such repetition. The most famous is the Hare Krsna mantra. Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare Hare is a form of addressing the mercy aspect of God and Krishna and Rama are directly names for the Supreme. Hare will take us past our old karmic natures and establish us in connection with the Supreme. Krishna refers to the all-attracive nature of the Supreme Being and Rama refers to Him as the reservoir of all spiritual bliss. All three names are transcendental sound vibration which come from the spiritual world into the material world. They are not of material origin. The first thing to do would be to memorize the simple sequence by repeating it over and over and allowing it entrance into your mind where it will produced the desired blissful meditative stateyou are desirous of. Of course this takes time and practice but even that practice is wonderful. Hare Krsna
