Addressing a media conference here on Sunday, RSVP Vice-Chancellor Hare Krishna Satapathi said it is an ancient tradition that knowledge is imparted in a peaceful and serene atmosphere. Moreover, all the scriptures in Sanskrit, including Vedas, were written in a natural surroundings. Some scriptures written in the forests were named Aronyakas. “The proposal to develop the campus as a Tapovana was approved by the University Grants Commission UGC). It sanctioned a one-time special grant of Rs 1 crore to RSVP for the campus development. The grant was sanctioned based on the academic and administrative performance of RSVP,” he said. The V-C said the special grant would be used to develop landscapes in front of the academic building, increase the height of the outer compound wall and erect a solar fencing. A footpath would be laid around the campus and fruit bearing plants would be raised give a green look to it. Drinking water supply on the campus would be augmented and other development works would be taken up. “We are also planning to release deer and peacock on the campus after getting permission from the Forest and Wildlife Department,” Satapathi said. RSVP, which has been given the status of Centre Excellence by the UGC, has completed 10 academic projects with Rs 3 crore it received. One of the projects is conceptualisation and development of self learning kits for Sanskrit. “We have received Rs 26 lakh from the UGC for various academic programmes. Remedial coaching centres for SC, ST and minority students would be set up to prepare them for NET and other national level examinations,” he said. Those who seek jnana will tend to seek peace. Those who seek bhakti will go wherever the action is (and wherever there is service to be done).
