Winners of both the ABN-Amro-Solitaire Design Awards and the India Institute of Gems and Jewellery (IIGJ) Vision 2008 All India Jewellery Design Competition awards were honored during an evening gala held at the Grand Hyatt. The theme of this year's Solitaire Design Awards was The Alluring Seasons—Summer, Spring, Monsoon and Winter. The contest included a total of 17 entries for two categories: Formal Wear and Daily Wear. Taking first place in the Formal Wear category was "Love Curse—Dark Winter Night" by Krsna, while the first runner-up was "Circle of Love (monsoon)" by Ansaa. In the Daily Wear category, "For All Seasons" by A'Star took first place, while the first runner-up award went to "Monsoon" by M. Kantilal Exports (Sanskriti Jewels). Also presented at the Friday night gala were the IIGJ awards, which are intended to recognize new, emerging designers. The awards are presented in three categories: Casual Wear, Bridal Wear and Party Wear. In the Casual Wear category, first place went to "Melting Sun" by designer Surbhi Gulati, who works as a designer and production manager with Silgold/A.V. Exports, while "Vogue" by IIGJ design instructor Arunprett Kaur Nagi took first place in the Party Wear category. In the Bridal Category, "Love" by Shweta Minawala took first place. While the Solitaire Design Awards revolved around the seasons, the idea of being "green" seemed to be on the minds of the IIGJ award winners, with two of the pieces honored designed specifically to draw attention to global warming. "Heat is Up" by Parul Agarwal took third place in the Casual Wear category, while "Global Warming" by Molay Kumar was a finalist in the Party Wear category.
