sandhu.jp
Dear all , All the relavant information you need on retrograde planets. Regards J.s.sandhu Q.When is a planet called retrograde? A. When a planet appears to be moving in the opposite direction as compared to its normal movement, it is called a retrograde planet. To understand this better we should look into the movements of planets. In Vedic Astrology all astronomical observations are done considering the earth to be the reference point. This system of observation is called 'geocentric'. In any system of measurements, the reference point is considered stationary, though it may actually be moving. This may be likened to everyone's common experience while sitting in a moving train. If the train you are sitting in passes by another train which is moving in the same direction, but slower than your train, this other train seems to be moving backwards against the backdrop of distant trees. This is so because you consider yourself to be the reference point and hence stationary. Largely, a similar phenomenon takes place with the planets also, when they appear to be moving backwards. In our solar system, the planets are orbiting around the Sun with varying speeds. The earth is also doing likewise. Inner and outer planets: The planets that lie between the Sun and the earth are called inner or inferior planets. These are Mercury and Venus. They can never go too far away from the Sun. Mercury can go a maximum of 27 degrees form the Sun and Venus cannot go beyond 47 degrees from the Sun. These two planets retrograde when they are between the earth and the Sun. The planets whose orbits lie outside the orbit of the earth are called outer or superior planets. These are Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. The extra-Saturnine planets, i.e., Herschel Neptune, and Pluto are also in this very category. Outer planets retrograde when the earth is between the Sun and the planet. Q. Ignorance about Mangala Dosha causes a lot of anxiety in many home. It is justified? A. Ignoring Mangala Dosha is also not right. Matching of horoscopes by a competent astrologer can save calamitous results in many cases. Mangala Dosha by itself is generally not so serious unless the 7th house, its lord and karaka have other severe afflictions too. Therefore, the entire horoscope must be scruitinized as a whole. After all, besides Mars, there are eight other planets in the horoscope which may also have some bearing (benefic or adverse) on the houses related to marital harmony. An isolated Mangala Dosha should not cause much concern. One is likely to find as many happy couples with Mangala Dosha as without it, in a real world. Q. Do all planets become retrograde? A. Except for the Sun and the Moon, all planets become retrograde once in a while. Since the Moon is essentially a satellite of the earth, its apparent and real movements are one and the same. Rahu and Ketu, which are not physical planets are always in retrograde motion. Q. Can one spot a retrograde planet in a horoscope without it being specifically mentioned? A. Since Mercury and Venus are always quite close to the Sun (as viewed from the earth) it is difficult to know from the chart alone when they are retrograde. But the outré planets are definitely retrograde when they are in the 6th, 7th or 8th house from the Sun. Sometimes they are retrograde even when they are in the 5th or 9th house from the Sun, but not always. Q. Does a retrograde planet behave differently in predictive astrology as compared to a direct one? A. The classics have vexed eloquent about the position (longitude) of a planet in the zodiac as far as predictive is concerned. That is the reason we have detailed descriptions of deepest points of exaltation, debilitation, own rashi placements, and what not. But they are generally silent on the velocity of the planet. Velocity has two components, one is speed and the other is direction. On speed there is silence again, except when it becomes atichari; and on direction there is very little to go by. A planet is termed atichari when it gains unusually fast motion immediately after it becomes direct.
sandhu.jp
Isn't astrology supposed to be dependent on astronomy which is essentially a study of motion of planets? A. Cognisance of velocity of a planet has been taken only in Shadbala which is the actual strength of a planet arising out of six difference sources. Out of these six sources, one is termed Cheshtabala. It can loosely be translated as 'attempt' or 'intent' of a planet due to its motion. A retrograde planet gets full 60 shashtiamshas as its Cheshtabala. All other states of motion get 45 or less. This strength is added to the strength of a planet derived through a host of other sources. Thus its relative importance is very low in Shadbala. Nevertheless, Venkatesha in Sarvatha Chintamani gives the results of the dasha of retrograde planets, as under: The Sun and the Moon are never retrograde. Mars: During the dasha-antardasha of Mars in retrogression, the native will be full of fear and trouble from thieves, fire and snakes. He ay fall from the position held and may go to the forest, to live in solitude. Mercury: In the dasha of retrograde Mercury the native gets good luck, wife, son and wealth. He also gets to hear the sacred texts from Puranas and engages in acts of charity and bathes in the sea. Jupiter: The dasha of a retrograde Jupiter bestows on the native much wealth, wife, sons, victory in battles, friendship with the ruling elite and perfumes. He indulges in luxuries of speech. Venus: During the dasha of retrograde Venus the native gets much honour from the ruler. He gets vehicles fitted with excellent music systems, fine clothes and ornaments and ruling powers. Saturn: Retrograde Saturn in its dashas causes failures in actions, frustrations in undertakings, sorrows and loss of brothers. These results should not be applied verbatim as they will be modified due to other factors present in a chart. But one thing is clear from these results that the author of Sarvartha Chintamani has made a sharp distinction between malefics and benefics, and they remain so even if they are retrograde in the natal chart. The view given above is that of one author. Another author, equally acclaimed, if not more, Shri Mantreshwara of Phaladeepika, offers a strikingly different opinion. According to him a retrograde planet has the status of an exalted planet even if it is posited in an inimical sign - no distinction between malefic and benefic. This view may have some astronomical justification. The planet that is on the verge of becoming retrograde is almost stationary; and so is the case when it is about to become direct. To understand this better, one may imagine a child on a swing. When the swing is at its highest point, it is momentarily stationary, since it has to change the direction of its motion. Even in-between these extreme points, the planet is rather slow in motion as compared to its average speed. Thus it is possible for it to send its radiations more strongly to the earth. This view that a retrograde planet acquires an element of strength and beneficence is supported by Amsayu method of calculation of longevity. In this method the age contributed by a retrograde planet is to be trebled. Such additions, or bharanas as they are called, are to be done only in the case of those planets which are either exalted or retrograde. Howeve, our experience points out that the result of a retrograde planet are contrary to expectations, they are erratic, inconsistent and unpredictable. It may be so due to it native velocity. Predictive astrology seemingly assumes direct motion of planets and the results are based on this tacit assumption. But results become unexpected when this assumption is not true. sandhu.jp
Q. Does it matter which sign the planet is retrograde in? A. Yes, it ought to. There is a principle that states: a planet that is moving towards its sign of exaltation, (uchchabhilashi) acquires beneficence and the planet that has crossed its sign of exaltation and is now moving towards its sign of debilitation (neechabhilashi) sheds some of its power to do good. With this principle in mind, imagine a Jupiter retrograde in Leo and a Mars retrograde in Leo. As is obvious, though both the planets are posited in the sign of a friend, but while Jupiter is moving towards its sign of exaltation, Cancer, Mars is moving towards its sign of debilitation. Another principle that must be borne in mind is that the retrograde planet is supposed to exert its influence from its preceding house also. Now take another example, that of Mercury and Venus, both getting retrograde in Virgo. While the exalted Mercury would be exerting its influence from Leo, a friendly rashi, Venus which was already debilitated, will now be deemed to be in Leo, its inimical rashi. Therefore, which rashi the planet is retrograde in, is an important consideration. Q. What happens if a planet becomes retrograde when it is exalted or debilitated? A. There is an opinion held by some astrologers that a retrograde planet, if debilitated, acts like an exalted planet; and an exalted planet getting retrograde behaves like a debilitated planet. The genesis of this opinion probably lies in the fact that a retrograde planet does not behave as it is expected to. Therefore, results from the other extreme are attributed to it. However, this opinion is not universally accepted
sandhu.jp
Q. Does a retrograde planet have any influence on the health issues of the native? A. The results of a retrograde planet are definitely felt on the health and generally these results are adverse. One of Parashar's dicta is that benefics in the kendras promote sound health. But experience suggests that a retrograde benefic is not capable of doing so. In fact it would certainly cause some health problem appropriate to its significations during its dasha. Our scrutiny of retrograde planet's influence on the health of the native clearly confirms that even if a benefic lagna lord is in the lagna and is retrograde, it cannot protect the native from the disease peculiar to the planet. Malefic retrograde planets are, of course, worse. Moreover, the retrograde planet passes on its adverse influence to other planets by association or aspect. The reader is referred to Chapter III of Subtleties of Medical Astrology by Dr. K.S. Charak for a detailed exposition of this very important issue, with many examples. sandhu.jp
Q. Can the retrogression be extended to vargas (divisional charts) too? A. Most of the rules of analyzing the varga chats are the same as the birth chart, be these aspects, transit or dasha. Therefore, one would expect no harm done if retrogression is applied on varga charts too. An additional feature of retrogression that may have some relevance to varga charts is that retrogression is free from the controversy of ayanamsha. Retrogression and direct motion will take place at the same time irrespective of the choice of the ayanamsha. It is not the same with vargas. With a different ayanamsha, the varga position of a planet often changes. This means that predictive work done based on a retrograde planet stands on surer footing as compared to other parameters. sandhu.jp
Q. You have addressed yourself to the role of retrograde planets in a natal chart. How about their behaviour when they are retrograde in transit? A. The predictive astrology has two major limbs to stand on. One is 'dasha' and the other is the 'transit'. A retrograde planet in transit may have a different meaning, though there may be some resonance between the natal retrograde planet and the same planet getting retrograde in transit. For example, a native who has his 6th lord Saturn ® posited in lagna has repeatedly suffered problems from one or the other employee whenever Saturn is retrograde in transit. During the retrogression it has given him a lot of mental anxiety. Once the planet assumes direct motion, the problem evaporates, as if by magic. Please note that Saturn and 6th house both denote employees. Generally, retrograde planets cause a repeat activity or the decision is revoked, for the time being. Often the promotions or transfers are stayed for some time. Once the retrogression is over, the concerned event moves ahead to its logical conclusion. Q. What is the role of a retrograde planet in Prashna (Horary) or Varshaphala (Annual Progression) Charts? A. Both the charts are essentially transit charts. The rules of their analysis resemble the Parashari system in many ways. But there are significant differences too, i.e., in aspects, yogas and dashas, etc. Both these charts in this respect are governed by Tajika Shastra. One of the most used yogas in Tajik is the Ithasala yoga. If this yoga is present between the lagnesha and the karyesha (significator of the event in question), it is a favourable situation for the event. To appreciate the role of a retrograde planet in these charts, let us examine the Ithasala yoga. It literally means the yoga of 'intermixing'. The yoga is said to occur when: 1. The lagnesha and the karyesh aare in mutual aspect. (Tajik aspects are different from Parashari aspects: the 3, 5, 9, 11 positions from each other are friendly aspects; 1, 4, 7 and 10 positions are inimical aspects; the remaining 2, 12, 6, 8 positions are neutral to each other and, therefore, do not constitute an aspect). 2. These two planets are within the orb in influence from each other. (The orb is deterined by the average of deeptamshs of the two planets. The deeptamshas are: Sun 15, Moon 12, Mars 8, Mercury 7, Jupiter 9, Venus 7 and Saturn 9 degrees). 3. The faster moving planet is behind the slower moving planet. (Planets in order of decreasing motions are: Moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn). Retrogression has some bearing on this third and the most important condition of the Ithasala yoga: 1. retrograde fast moving planet at lesser longitude does not produce Ithasala yoga since its motion is in the opposite direction to that of the more advanced slow moving planet. They are actually moving away from each other, therefore, they are not likely to intermix. 2. The intensity of Ithasala is increased if the slow moving planet is retrograde and has higher longitude. 3. When both the lagnesha and the karyesha (or even one of them) are retrograde, debilitated, combust or otherwise weak, another yoga takes over this yoga. It literally means 'cancellation' of the Ithasala yoga. It is an unfavourable yoga and does not allow the event to fructity favourably. Q. What are the results of benefic or malefic retrograde planets? A. If in a Prashna or Varshaphala chart: 1. a benefit retrograde planet is a lord of an auspicious house and has a relationships with lagnesha or karyesha, some repeat action is likely, e.g., an interview or promotion exercise will be repeated and the result will be favourable. 2. The result will remain favourable even if the planet involved in a malefic one, but besides the repeat action there would be obstacles and tensions. 3. If the benefic retrograde planet is a Trik lord, the favourable result becomes doubtful due to problems and obstacles. 4. If a malefic retrograde planet is a Trik lord, then cancellation of the event takes place due to various impediments. Thus we see that the retrograde condition of the planet, whether in natal chart or transit has specific and strong repercussions on predictive astrology. sandhu.jp
Some more information on retrograde planets. Retrograde of planet is not an actual phenomena. The truth is planets never retrograde; they are always in direct motion. But since the speed of rotation of planets around Sun and their distance from Sun are different, while viewing from earth we at times feel some planets as˜moving backwards or in other words as in retrograde motion, even though in reality it is not so. Anyway, even though ˜retrograde motion of planets is not a scientific reality, their concept is given much importance in astrology. There is one unique concept related to retrograde that all astrologers should remember " i.e Cheshta Bala. Cheshta Bala (Ability to act)The 5 planets Ma-Me-Ju-Ve- Sa has the special ability to act (to provide a visible benefic or malefic result) while in retrograde.Planets who won the Graha Yuddha (Planetary war) and planets placed along with Moon also have the special ability to provide a visible result. It is due to this very fact that retrograde is considered important in astrology. It is fun to note that, there are diametrically opposite viewpoints regarding the result of retrograde motion. Retrograde planets are strong As per Phaladeepika Vakram gate swacha phalam vidadyal Sapatna neecharksha gato(a)pi khetaH (Phaladeepika) [Even if in enemy sign or in debilitation, if the planet is retrograde, the result equivalent to exaltation should be predicted (since exaltation makes them stronger)] Retrograde planets are weak As per the book Sri Trilokya Prakasa - Vakraga abala vakran margagaH subhada ravi Uttarayanago yuddhe grahanamuttaro bali (Sri Trailokya Prakasa) [Planets in retrograde are weak, and the planets in direct motion (are strong) and gives benefic results. Sun is strong during Uttarayana and weak during Dakshinayana. During planetary war, the planet in northern side wins (and not the one in southern side)] Moderate View Between these extreme views " one presented by Phaladeepika (considering all planets in retrograde as strong and benefic) and the ( other presented by Trilokya Prakasa (considering all planets in retrograde as weak and malefic), most of the popular and well- accepted traditional authentic texts such as Saravali, Dasadhyayi etc seems to take a middle path. As per them, ˜Benefics in retrograde gives beneficial results while malefics in retrograde gives maleficial results as well. 1. Saravali As per Saravali Vakrinastu mahaveerya subha rajyaprada rinam Papa vyasanadaH pumsam kurvanti cha vridhadanam (Saravali) [if benefic planets are in retrograde, they provide all kinds of beneficial results, makes the native a king by providing a kingdom to rule. But malefic planets in retrograde makes him wander a lot with out benefit (but provides the beneficial results at the end)] 2. Dasadhyayi Dasadhyayi supplements this derivation with the following statement Vakram gatasya hi dasabhramayati kulalachakraval purusham Vyasanani riipu virodham kurute papasya na subhasya (Dasadhyayi, Saravli) [Retrograde planets makes the native go in circle and circle (repeating the same task without success again and again) as if fallen into the circular wheel of the pot maker. Sadness, wrath of enemies etc will occur if malefic is in retrograde. (But benefic results will be received at the end). This derivation does not apply to benefics] 3. Jataka Parijata Jataka Parijata provides some clues but does not provide a clear picture. As per Jataka Parijata " 1) Sun and Moon " are never in retrograde (so retrograde results does not apply to them) 2) Mars " gives good results while in retrograde. 3) Mercury " (no comments) 4) Jupiter - (no comments) 5) Venus " gives good results while retrograde 6) Saturn " is strong while in retrograde. (But no comment about whether benefic or malefic) 7) Rahu and Ketu are always in retrograde (so retrograde results does not apply to them) Considering the above 3 views together, we can arrive at the following understanding " 1) Sun, Moon, Rahu, Ketu " Retrograde results does not apply to them 2) Mars " Becomes strong in retrograde. Should provide bad results (at the beginning) as per Saravali and Dasadhyayi; but should provide good results (at the end) as per Jataka Parijata. 3) Mercury - Becomes strong in retrograde. Results depend on whether Mercury is benefic or malefic. Mercury alone with one or more benefic becomes a benefic (due to influence) and Mercury with one or more malefic becomes a malefic (due to influence). Benefic Mercury in retrograde gives good results throughout, but malefic Mercury gives bad results in the beginning and good results at the end. 4) Jupiter - Becomes strong in retrograde. Should give beneficial result as per the guidelines given by Saravali and Dasadhyayi. (Jataka Parijataâ silence on this matter is skeptical) 5) Venus " Becomes strong and gives good results in retrograde. 6) Saturn - Becomes strong and gives good results in retrograde As per Saravali and Dasadhyayi the malefic Saturn should provide malefic results throughout till almost till the end. Near the end it should provide good results. (Jataka Parijata silence on predicting beneficial or maleficial result is skeptical) Secret from the Master: The general statement good-bad or beneficial-maleficial will not help much in practical astrological result derivation. The actual good or bad result that should be predicted as per the above guideline should be taken from - 1) The house-base result ascribed to that planet 2) The sign-base result ascribed to that planet All the pointers regarding retrograde planets available, should be used only as a guideline to USE the actual RESULTS pointed by the above two statements. sandhu.jp
Dear anusha ji, If you are talking about Evils at birth and antidotes hereis the post. But if you are talking about general remedies to ward of the malefic effects of planets, iwill start a new thread very soon on nine planets and the remedies. Regards J.s.sandhu <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com <st1:place w:st="on">Ch.</st1:place></st1:country-region> 9. Evils at Birth 1. O Brahmin, first of all estimate the evils and checking factors thereof through Lagna and then declare the effects of the 12 Houses. 2. Evils, causing premature end, exist up to the 24th year of ones age. As such, no definite calculation of life span should be made till such year of age. 3-6. Short-life Combinations (up to Sloka 23). Should Moon be in 6th, 8th, or 12th House and receives a Aspect from a malefic, the child will die soon. If in the process there be a Aspect from a benefic, it may live up to 8. If a benefic is retrograde in 6th, 8th, or 12th House, receiving a Aspect from a malefic, death will occur within a month of birth. This is true, only when Lagna is not occupied by a benefic. Should 5th House be occupied by Saturn, Mars and Sun jointly, (early) death of mother and brother will come to pass. Mars, placed in 1st, or in 8th House and be conjunct with Saturn, or Sun, or receiving a Aspect from a malefic, being bereft of a Aspect from a benefic, will prove a source of (immediate) death. 7-11. If Saturn and Mars give a Aspect to Lagna, as the lumin6thes are conjunct with Rahu (elsewhere), the child will live a fortnight. Immediate death of the child along with its mother will occur, if Saturn is in 10th House, Moon in 6th House and Mars in 7th House. One will immediately go to the abode of Yama, if Saturn is in 1st House, while Moon and Jupiter are in their order in 8th and 3rd House. Only a month will be the span of ones life, who had Sun in 9th House, Mars in 7th House and Jupiter and Venus in 11th House. All Planets (any Planet) in 12th House will be the source of a short life, specifically the lumin6thes, Venus and Rahu. But the Aspect of these four Planets (on 12th House) will counteract such evils. 12. Moon is capable of causing early end, if she is with a malefic in 7th, 8th, or 1st House and unrelated to a benefic. 13. Early death will come to pass, if there be a birth in the morning, or evening junctions, or in a Hora, ruled by Moon, or in Gandanta, while Moon and malefics occupy Kendras from Lagna. 14. Definition of Sandhya. 3 Ghatis before the sight of the semi disc (half) of the rising Sun and a similar duration, following Sun’s set, are called, as morning twilight and evening twilight, respectively. 15. Early Death. Should all the malefics be in the oriental half, while benefics are in the occidental half, early death of one born in Scorpio will follow. In this case there is no need of any rethinking. 16. Malefic in 12th and 6th House, or in 8th and 2nd House, while Lagna is hemmed between other malefics, will bring early death. 17. Malefics, occupying 1st and 7th House, while Moon is conjunct with a malefic with no relief from a benefic, will also cause premature death. 18. Early death will be inflicted on the native, if decreasing Moon is in 1st House, while malefics capture 8th House and a Kendra. There is no doubt about that. 19. Moon in 1st, 8th, 12th, or 7th House and hemmed between malefics will confer premature death. 20. Should Moon be in 1st House, hemmed between malefics, while 7th, or 8th House has a malefic in it, he will face immediate death along with his mother. 21. Should Saturn, Sun and Mars be in 12th, 9th and 8th House without Aspect from a benefic, the child will face instant death. 22. With a malefic in 7th House, or in the rising Dreshkana, while decreasing Moon is in 1st House, death be experienced early. 23. The life span of the child will be either 2 months, or 6 months only, if all Planets devoid of strength are relegated to Apoklima Houses. 24. Evils to Mother (up to Sloka 33). The mother of the native will incur evils (will die soon), if Moon at birth receives a Aspect from three malefics. Benefics, giving a Aspect to Moon, will bring good to the mother. 25. Should 2nd House be occupied by Rahu, Mercury, Venus, Sun and Saturn, the child's birth has been after its fathers death, while even the mother will face early death. 26. If Moon is in the 7th, or the 8th from a malefic, be herself with a malefic and receives a Aspect from a strong malefic, predict mothers end to be early. 27. The child will not live on mothers milk, but on that of she-goat, if Sun is exalted, or debilitated in 7th House. 28. Should a malefic be in the 4th, identical with an inimical Rāśi, counted from Moon, while there is no benefic in a Kendra, the child will lose its mother in a premature manner. 29. Malefics in 6th and 12th House will bring evils to mother. The child's father will receive similar effects, if 4th and 10th House are captured by malefics. 30. Mercury in 2nd House, while malefics occupy 1st and 12th House: this Yoga will destroy the entire family. 31. Jupiter, Saturn and Rahu, respectively, posited in 1st, 2nd and 3rd House will cause mothers death early. 32. Doubtlessly the mother will give up the child, if it has malefics in Konas, counted from the decreasing Moon. No benefic shall be conjunct with the said malefics. 33. If Mars and Saturn are together in a Kendra with reference to Moon and occupy one and the same Navāmśa, the child will have two mothers. Yet it will be short-lived. 34. Evil to Father (up to Sloka 42). Ones father will incur early death, if Saturn, Mars and Moon in their orders are in 1st, 7th and 6th House. 35. The native will at the time of his marriage lose his father, if Jupiter is in 1st House, while Saturn, Sun, Mars and Mercury are together in 2nd House. 36. Early loss of father will take place, if Sun is with a malefic, or is hemmed between malefics, as there is another malefic in the 7th from Sun. 37. Remote will be the possibility of ones father sustaining, if Sun is in 7th, while Mars is in 10th and Rahu is in 12th House. 38. Early and troubled will be ones fathers death, if Mars is in 10th House identical with his enemy Rāśi. 39. Moon in 6th House, Saturn in 1st House and Mars in 7th House: this array of heavenly bodies at birth will not ensure a long span of life for the father. 40. If Sun receives a Aspect from Saturn and be in Aries, or in Scorpio Navāmśa, the father would have given up the family before birth of the child, or would have passed away. 41. If 4th, 10th and 12th House are all occupied by malefics, both the parents will leave the child to its own fate and wander from place to place. 42. The father will not see the native till his (the natives) 23rd year, if Rahu and Jupiter are together in an inimical Rāśi identical with 1st, or 4th House. 43-45. Parents. Sun is the indicator of father for all beings, while the mother is indicated by Moon. Should Sun receive a Aspect from one, or more malefics, or be hemmed between them, this will cause evils to father. Similarly Moon be considered in respect of mother. Malefics in the 6th, the 8th, or the 4th from Sun will bring inauspicious results about the father. Malefics in such places from Moon will be adverse for the mother. The strength, or otherwise of the occupants concerned be suitably estimated. <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Ch.</st1:place></st1:country-region> 10. Antidotes for Evils 1. Those are the evils (due to a native). I now narrate the antidotes for such evils as well, which will be helpful to assess the extent of inauspiciousness. 2. Should one among Mercury, Jupiter and Venus be in an angle from Lagna, all evils are destroyed, as Sun eliminates darkness. 3. Just as a single reverential obeisance before Lord Shiva, the Trident holder frees one from all sins, a single, but strong Jupiter in Lagna will ward off all the evils. 4. Lagna Lord is singly capable of counteracting all evils, if he is strongly placed in an angle, just as Lord Shiva, the holder of the Bow destroyed the three cities, built of gold, silver and iron for the demons by Maya. 5. All evils are destroyed, if a benefic aspects Lagna of one born during the night in the bright half. Similarly a malefics Aspect on Lagna of one born during day time in the dark half. 6. Sun in 12th will confer a hundred-year life span on one born in Libra Lagna. 7. It will prove auspicious for the mother as well as the native, if Mars joins, or is aspected by Jupiter. 8. If malefics are surrounded by benefics, while angles, or trines are themselves benefic-occupied, evils disappear soon. Not only this, evils will not follow from the Houses concerned. sandhu.jp
The strength, or otherwise of the occupants concerned be suitably estimated

Should one among Mercury, Jupiter and Venus be in an angle from Lagna, all evils are destroyed, as Sun eliminates darkness. 3. sandhu.jp
Venus retrograde What is Venus retrograde? From time to time, due to the relative motion of the Earth and Venus around the Sun, as we look to the sky, Venus appears to make a stop and go backwards. This is the so called retrograde movement, it happens every 18 months or so, and it lasts for about 40 days, which represents 7% of the time. Of all planets, Venus is the one that has the shorter retrograde movement. What would be the astrological influence of Venus' retrograde movement? By definition, Venus is the planet of love and marriage, of relationships and diplomacy, of art and beauty, of fashion and luxury, of money and pleasures. Going backwards, the venusian influence is diminished, disturbed or internalized, so that the above mentioned areas are afflicted in a way or another. During this time, feelings are not easily expressed, everyone seems to need more affection and love; also, those with relational issues will have to face the reality. The general advise is to focus on older relationships, to try to make them work, or to understand our true feelings. It will be harder to understand what others feel, though. We may meet old friends or someone we loved or cared for a long time ago, which might reactivate old feelings, possibly forgotten. The artistic sensibility is lower than normal or perverted, so that we might buy clothes or artwork that we'll reject after Venus goes back to direct motion. Therefore it is advised not to buy jewelery or other similar expensive stuff, as we might regret it later. However, Venus retrograde is a good time to buy antiques, artwork of historical value or just second-hand art objects, if you can evaluate them correctly. What is definitely to avoid during this time? Weddings, opening of a fashion store, beauty salon, art gallery, launching of a women magazine, buying expensive items of venusian nature, radical changes of the personal look, house redecorations, big parties or other important social events, investments and so on. What should we do, then? clean-up the house and decide which old objects of sentimental value to keep and which to throw away or sell. renegociate a contract or a bank loan (but we shouldn't apply for a new one) discuss and clarify things in the current relationship, as our understanding on own feelings is increased, which is not true about others' feelings, requiring open and sincere communication ask genuinely for forgiveness for our mistakes contact friends or other persons we care about in order to continue the relationship develop our capability to love anyone unconditionally, by meditations, prayers and other spiritual activities And last but not least, try to remember how it was and how it felt when Venus was retrograde in the past, thus learning from your own experience: Regards J.s.sandhu
sandhu.jp
Mars retrograde Mars retrograde in astrology Mars is the planet of energy, action, desire, sports and wars. When Mars turns to retrograde motion, the overall atmosphere changes, people have lower physical energy, they get tired and feel stressed more easily and they need more time to relax and recover. The mood, the desires, the initiative, the ambition, they all seem to function on a lower level and therefore all new projects started during this period seem to lack stamina and focus. The same happens on the sexual level: the libido decreases for a while, but then comes back to normal after the end of this period. All new Martian actions fail in a much higher proportion (surgical operations, starting a sport, lawsuit, war). Also, it is not recommended to buy mechanical stuff. As Mars is retrograde, all this Martian energy is now internalized, uncontrolled subconscious agressivity can burst out. Instincts are not as reliable as before, so acting out of impulse is not recommended. The best way to use the Mars retrograde period is to make plans, to work on details and then to wait the end of this period in order to materialize them. People should relax, study, take care of their health, do some yoga exercises or practice other techniques that use the internal or spiritual energy. The keyword of the period is patience. One just has to wait for it to pass in order to gets things done. Mars retrograde in history As you will see below from the examples of recent history (the Yom Kippur War, the East Timor invasion by Indonesia, the Falklands War, the Kosovo War), the wars initiated during a Mars retrograde period are always lost in the long run by the attacking country and prove to be exceedingly bloody, with huge casualties. Interestingly, as I studied the modern history in correlation with Mars retrograde, I noticed that all wars initiated by <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Israel</st1:place></st1:country-region> started immediately after a Mars retrograde period (10 to 26 days afterwards). The legitimacy of NATO's bombing campaign in Kosovo has been the subject of much debate. NATO did not have the backing of the United Nations to use force in <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Yugoslavia</st1:place></st1:country-region> but justified its actions on the basis of an "international humanitarian emergency". Criticism was also drawn by the fact that the NATO charter specifies that NATO is an organization created for defence of its members, but in this case it was used to attack a non-NATO country which was not directly threatening any NATO member. NATO countered this argument by claiming that instability in the Balkans was a direct threat to the security interests of NATO members, and military action was therefore justified by the NATO charter. The war inflicted many casualties. <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Yugoslavia</st1:place></st1:country-region> claimed that NATO attacks caused between 1,200 and 5,700 civilian casualties. Human Rights Watch counted a minimum of 500 civilian deaths in 90 separate incidents. NATO acknowledged killing at most 1,500 civilians. The majority of deaths appear to have been within Kosovo itself; there were up to 5,000 military casualties according to NATO estimates, while the Serbian figure is around 1,000. Large numbers of Albanian civilians were also killed, although the exact numbers are unclear. (source: Wikipedia)
sandhu.jp
General influence of Mercury retrograde Mercury rules over the mind's processes, studying, communication, businesses, travels and the like. When Mercury reverses its direction, all these areas are affected as well. The mind turns naturally inwards and people tend to analyze more the own thoughts and follow the common thinking patterns, rather then be curious and eager of new intellectual experiences or challenges. This helps the meditation or the thorough lonely long-term study of a specific matter, but it affects the study of new subjects, the communication with the others, the attention oriented outwards. Businesses, travels and communications tend to experience delays and different problems. Computers and other processes that work with information may experience crashes, unexpected failures. Don't enroll to courses, don't buy expensive Mercurian items (books, cars, mobile phones etc.), don't sign important contracts and do not marry. What is this Mercury retrograde period good for? It is definitely a very good period for some actions. No time is completely bad for anything, there is a reason in everything happens. The key is the reversed direction of movement: take any known Mercurian action, reverse its flow, consider the keywords "re-doing something", "double-checking", "finish the old projects" and there you are, you've found the good side of Mercury retrograde. For instance, you may want to read again a book you particularly liked, a subject you studied before, meet and discuss with old friends you haven't met for a long time, travel to places you've already been to before. This is an excellent time to work on old projects that never got to be finished. So, think about the things you started and never finalized. Next, you might wish to prevent any bad things to happen to you: so double-check your agenda, call your business partners to confirm that everything goes as planned, have everything ready before the deadline and leave some extra time for unexpected events. Make copies of your important files and documents, save your work more often. The other solution is to go on vacation or at least slow down the pace of your projects. You will find that going slowly during the Mercury retrograde period will spare you many efforts of redoing the same action that wasn't performed right the first time. Above all, be generous and compassionate: you are already aware about the influence of this period, but the others aren't aware of it or there may be uncontrollable events. That's why you should have more diligence with the others and give them some more time. It'll be your mental health that you'll be sparing actually. Mercury represents non-emotional, rational, objective thought. Mercury is flexible, responsive, and adaptable. Part of its job is to help disburse information, so it rules perception, language, writing, editing, research, speaking and learning. Mercury also rules telecommunications, computing, software, electronic gadgets, shipping, couriers, and transportation, etc. So, it's a pretty important planet to just everyday living. So, when Mercury goes retrograde, it scrambles information, causing static, confusion and forgetfulness. The effects are universal and all peoples feel its effect, regardless of their own signs. The signs Gemini and Virgo feel it slightly more because Mercury is their ruling planet and because they're such picky perfectionists and they really do expect their lives to go like clockwork. Mercury Rx periods is the revealing of things hidden [past crimes are revealed or criminals located who were hiding during these times, clues are found or researched that had been previously overlooked in the past]. Also, investigations can be horribly botched during those times too. Probably it's almost instinctual when detectives review and reveal during these times. Quote by Steven Forrest: "Mercury retrograde isn't bad; it just takes some planning to cooperate with the energies. It's meant to be spent assimilating experiences, reviewing the past, and redoing, in general. As a matter of fact, if you really want to get the most out of Mercury retrograde, confine your activities as much as possible to those that have "re" attached to the beginning of the word. Reschedule appointments, repair vehicles, return to the past, rewrite documents and agreements, and so forth." Mercury RX is a great time for writers to go back to their work and edit. You can find more mistakes during that time, and you might also come up with ideas to spice up your writing, make it stronger. It's also a good period to clean out files, closets, return to unfinished projects and reviewing them, spend more time mentally re-viewing things that have happened in the past, get in touch with old friends, and schedule class reunions. Some "don'ts" to get you through this period: don't start any new task or project (jobs began under a Mercury Rx period, even during a shadow period before or after, have always ended either being renegotiated usually not to our benefit or dropped altogether), don't plan any extended air flights or other lengthy trips, don't start any new medical procedures; if the appointment is for diagnostics or researching, by all means run with it and prefer to wait until after the Rx period to make major decisions. Sometimes, however, the only thing that can be changed or have power over an unresolved issue is to change the way to deal with it: acceptance, tolerance, avoidance, or forgiveness are the only constructive outlets. sandhu.jp
Dear all , Impact of Retrograde Saturn A retrograde Saturn in a chart, regardless of where you find it, always represents the neglect of responsibilities in the past. In many ways, it indicates that the native of the chart must be more honest with himself since there was an avoidance of true self-awareness and self honesty. Also, with a retrograde Saturn, the native comes into this life with a tendency to have the same goals that he had before, for these were not fulfilled in the past because of the avoidance of responsibilities. Therefore, the identical goals will be present, sometimes clothed in different circumstances or different situations, but the same goals would be the underlying foundation, regardless, in the circumstances and situations inthe person’s life. Always, a retrograde Saturn in a chart indicates that, in a past lifetime, the individual crystallized-did not grow. The responsibilities that were ignored or avoided in the past are involved with the qualities of the sign in which the retrograde Saturn is located in this lifetime. For example – a retrograde Saturn in Leo shows that the individual avoided the responsibility of leadership in the past, and with the Sun as the ruling planet of Leo, the individual made no attempt to bring out the soul quality or soul consciousness in the past. Another example of this would be a retrograde Saturn in Cancer. Since Cancer is the “feeling” sign of the Zodiac, it shows the avoidance of true “feeling” concepts in the past. First House: Retrograde Saturn in the 1st house shows that the individual, in the past, did not develop a flexible personality, was set in his ways, self-opinionated, and, according to the sign, had an ego problem. The responsibility of developing that ego was neglected, or the personality was developed along negative lines. It also indicates that the individual avoided the development of talents which were part of his character and personality. The lesson to be learned, with retrograde Saturn in the 1st house, is the proper development of personality in such a way that the individual receives the respect of others. It tells that the individual should establish proper values, goals and direction in life. The tendency to be too sober, too serious, too contemplative, should be balanced with a good sense of humour and a flexibility in adjusting to diversified situations and experiences in life that would be encountered. Second House: This shows the individual was much too materialistic in the past, placing emphasis solely upon material security, material possessions. It indicates that the values were self-centred, with little regard as to how the material aspects in life could be used for the benefit of others. There was little true appreciation of the wise use of money and “things.” There are several questions that arise with retrograde Saturn in the 2nd house. Can the native of the chart accept poverty and privation without losing a sense of perspective about life itself? Can the native of the chart assume a code of values which are non-materialistic? Since the retrograde Saturn opposes the 8th house, the answers to these two questions could easily reside in emphasizing the qualities of the 8th house, such as regeneration, metaphysics, etc. The lesson of retrograde Saturn in the 2nd house: Despite denials, limitations, disappointments, more effort will have to be expended in order for the native to accumulate any degree of an estate or material security. It requires that the individual establish correct values where these things are concerned. Even if the individual does exert effort and re-align his values, the material possessions and security will not come easily, but they can, depending upon the sincerity and the effort exerted by the native of the chart. Third House: There was undoubtedly an avoidance of responsibility where brothers and sisters were concerned. It also shows that the individual did not use educational opportunities to the best advantage for self-development and for proper mental attitudes. In communicating with others, the person displayed saturnine qualities (cold, gloomy, moody). The lesson of retrograde Saturn in the 3rd house shows responsibilities where brothers and sisters are concerned. The individual should never ignore the mental, or economic, or spiritual lack where siblings and/or other relatives are concerned. The present life will, in all probability, the characterized by consistent needs on the part of these family members and other relatives. Whether this need requires monetary assistance, mental stimulation, or spiritual counselling, the condition of Saturn in the 3rd house means the acceptance by the native of the responsibilities in these areas. The attitude and manner in which the person communicates with others, orally or in writing, and in assisting in the afore-mentioned areas of responsibility, will determine how the retrograde condition can be transmuted. Fourth House: Similar to the condition of retrograde Saturn in the 1st house, in one aspect, it deals with the failure on the part of the native of the chart to develop himself in such a way that his influence upon others was more positive. Since all who come within our sphere or our personal environment are influenced by us, our attitudes, our personality, the retrograde Saturn indicates the negative influence of the individual in the past. It could also mean that the individual did not attempt, nor was concerned with, how he affected other people. Since Cancer is the natural ruler of the 4th house, the “feeling” concept was misused or neglected in the past. The other aspect of retrograde Saturn in the 4th house is that the individual did not provide the necessary environmental factors requisite to a proper home condition. This could have been actual home facilities or the home atmosphere itself. Continued----
webyogi
I like how you describe a retrograde Saturn as showing neglect from the past. -WebYogi-
sandhu.jp
Fifth House: Retrograde Saturn in the 5th house shows responsibilities towards children were neglected. Children were misused, even to the point of being abused. In love affairs, the individual used members of the opposite sex for self-gratification and self-fulfilment (physical) with little regard to the results or effects upon others. Creativity was also ignored or misused because of the ego-centeredness of the individual. Anything the individual created in the past reflected “self” rather than being for the sake of creativeness or for what was being created. The lesson of retrograde Saturn in the 5th house : Usually children are denied to people who have retrograde Saturn in the 5th house, or the number of children limited. If children are denied, the individual could very easily engage in some fact of work which would deal with children – especially handicapped children. If children are limited, it would require the wise rearing of these children, the assumption of the responsibility of proper guidance and proper direction given to these children. The person might also have to accept the fact that, regardless of what he does, there might not be the appreciation or any hope for reward from his children. In relation to the affairs with the opposite sex, it requires caution and a realization of the responsibility an individual has when it comes to any relationship with the opposite sex, whether it be physical, social, mental, or spiritual. Creativity should be for the sake of creation itself, rather than how it would reflect the individual. Sixth House: This location of a retrograde Saturn shows the avoidance of the responsibility of awareness where the general public would be concerned. As the natural ruler of Capricorn, it shows that the individual, in the past, remained aloof from the needs or the wants of the general public and was not able to identify himself with or to relate to the social trends of mankind, whether these trends were political, social, economic, or spiritual. There was a great deal of discrimination where service was concerned. Any service rendered in the past was done from the viewpoint of how much prestige it would bring to the individual. These attitudes were also carried over into the working conditions in the past – relationships with co-workers or those who worked under the individual. General health observances were ignored or neglected, or good health misused. The lesson of retrograde Saturn in the 6th house : Unselfish service to mankind without hope for the proverbial “pat on the back” for a job well done; service should be rendered wherever the need as shown or requested of the individual; patience and understanding should be developed where the public is concerned and with all those involved with the individual in his working environment. Wise use of good health and the observance of general health conditions are basic requirements for the retrograde Saturn in the 6th house. Seventh House: In the past the individual did not assume the responsibility of partnerships. If the partnership were in the form of marriage, the individual (according to aspects) could have been unfaithful, could have been lacking in true love, or could have been improvident. In a business partnership, the responsibilities could easily have been left up to the other partner, or neglected, or misused. The misuse, in a business partnership, could have centered around material self-advancement at the expense of the partner, which could have tended towards dishonesty. The lesson of a retrograde Saturn in the 7th house: The assumption of responsibilities in marriage, by being faithful, by being a good provider, or a wise manager, by providing a solid, lasting foundation in the relationship of marriage. In business partnerships, it means the individual has to carry his share of the work load, and the responsibilities, and must be sincere and honest where any partner would be concerned. Eighth House: This shows that, in past lives, the individual has been exposed to metaphysical teaching, higher truth learnings, astrology, etc., but neglected to pursue them to the greatest degree possible or, having gained the knowledge could easily have misused this. Hence, the misuse could have concerned itself with establishing groups with a negative cast where motives and functions are concerned, such as witchcraft, development circles, lower forms of mediumship. It shows that the individual also refused to recognize the negative effects resulting from how he ended a friendship, a job, a project, etc. In most cases, the individual was his own worst enemy in how any one of these things was concluded. In a very subtle way, there was an underlying fear of death or fear of the unknown. The lesson of retrograde Saturn in the 8th house demands a true search for Truth, an application of metaphysical principles to daily life, which would also be connected with the manner in which the individual concluded a friendship, a job, or a project. The person has to accept the fact that a change of values must be accomplished in order to develop spirituality. It shows, too, that there must be a wise choice of involvement with groups which would be studying or practicing metaphysical techniques. Through all of this, the person’s perspective on life and death will alter for the better. The essence of the lesson, of the 8th house location of retrograde Saturn revolves around the proper assumption of the responsibilities of truth and the application of truth.
