gokulkr
Sri Sudharsana Homam Sri Sudharsana Homam is considered to one among the greatest and sacred homams. This homam is done not only for a particular person's favour but also done for the peaceful life of this entire world against the evil. This homam is done towards Sri Chakkarathalwar, who is said to be the Hamsam of Sriman Narayanan. Chakkarathalwar is found in the hands of Sri Vishnu, the protecting god. He helps his bhaktas who are in great danger. Chakkarathalwar is found along with him thereby waiting to help Sriman Narayanan. So, Chakkarathalwar is said to be the “Saving God” for every bhaktas. The best example for why he is said to be the saving god is the help offered to Gajendran, the elephant. Gajendran used to offer Lotus flower to Sriman Narayanan daily from a small pond nearby. One day when it was about to pluck the flower, a crocodile caught the leg of the elephant. Gajendran seeked the help of Sriman Narayanan. It is the duty of the great god to help his bhaktas irrespective of the caste, religion, thing etc. At once, he came along with Sudharsana Alwar on top of Garudan. Sriman Narayanan provoked the Chakkaram on the crocodile, killed it and thereby rescued the elephant. This action clearly explains the greatness of Chakkarathalwar and how helpful he is towards his bhaktas. So, Sudharsana Alwar is considered to be chief amongst the Panja Aayudham of Sriman Narayanan. It is also said that if we go daily to the Sannadhi of Chakkarathalwar, we will be freed from our sins and can attain a great level in our lives. So, by doing Sri Sudharsana homam, we can reach a great level in our life and will be against the evil thoughts and people. This great "Maha Sudharsana Homam" should be done with a clear and clean mind. Our thoughts and actions should be clean. By doing this great homam in our house (or) in office, evil things, our sorrows, are destroyed and are blessed with Victory, upliftment of life etc. So, perform this great Maha Sudharsana Homam and attain a great level in your life. gokulkr
Shodasaayudha Stotra This stotra further elaborates the greatness and glory of Sudarsana by singing about the weapons which Sudarsana wields. The first of them is Sudarsana itself (2) and the sixteenth is trisoolam (17). Sloka 18 invokes the protective grace of Sudarsana who is referred to as Shodasaayudha -- one who has 16 weapons. One peculiarity of this stotra is that all the slokas, 1 to 17, invoke protection of Sri Sudarsana on the listener -- May He protect you or confer auspiciousness on you and so on. It is believed that this stotram (possibly Sudarsanaashtakam too) was sung by Desika at Kanchipuram when he was told that at Tirupputkuzhi (about five miles from Kanchipuram) a fever was raging in epidemic form. His prayers made in this stotra were answered and the place was freed from the epidemic and people resettled there as before. This tradition explains why these two stotras, Sudarsanashtakam and Shodasaayudha Stotram, find a place next to Paramartha Stuti, which as we saw was a hymn in praise of the Perumal of that place. http://www.ramanuja.org/sv/acharyas/desika/stotras/pdf/shodasa.pdf
