After completing Mantra anustann one needs to perform Hawan (Holy Fire), Tarpan & Maarjan. Havan is done for appeasement of Gods(Devataas). Tarpan is done for offering to & appeasement of "Updevataas"(Gods) and Pitras" (Ancestors).
