OPINION OF THE SCHOLARS

 

If there are pores and hair on the backside of the palm then it can be categorised into 3 categories

1) Brown or faint coloured hair: Such people are of very emotional and

touchy nature. They are good-natured and are easily influenced by

others. They could also be lethargic and will not be fond of hard work.

2) If the hair is black then such people are short tempered, irritable

and perverse by nature. They are comparatively more jealous and fond of

sensual pleasures. Due to lack of bearing power, they often fall into

problematic conditions.

3) If the hair is thick and lustrous, then such people are very short

tempered and are very interested in sex. They are more jealous and

irritable. One can see most of the demerits in such a personality.

 

THE NAILS

 

Nails of Men:

 

One can determine the soundness of health on seeing the nails of a

person. Even physicians usually do check the nails of a person while

diagnosis. Secondly one can even determine the fortune of a person on

seeing the nails.

One can see detailed explanation of this in Indian philosophy. It is

mentioned in the Garuda Purana that people whose nails are yellow,

faint and are fluted are impotent people. If the nails are bent fluted,

they are unfortunate and impoverished. Those people whose nails have

stains or spots serve others and earn their living. These stains or

spots usually look bad and ugly.

 

Garga Purana:

If the

nails of a person are not of similar colour that is if somewhere they

have red stains, somewhere they are yellow or white or blue stains,

somewhere they are broken, they are shell-shaped or small and are

spread towards the front side then such a person is impoverished and

lives in penury. On the contrary, if the nails are roundish similar to

that of a back of a tortoise, they are red, lustrous and smooth then

such a person is very fortunate. The length of the nails is usually

half the length of the fist phalange of the fingers. Such type of nails

is only then considered good. The nails should be broad in the front

and should be small at the back and should have ups and downs. The

nails should be slightly away from the skin. Such people are of good

nature and achieve high positions in society.

The nail of the ring finger should be bigger than the nail of the

little finger. The nail of the middle finger should be bigger than the

nail of the little finger. The nail of the index finger should be

bigger than the nail of the middle finger and the nail of the thumb

should be bigger than the nail of the index finger. These types of

nails bestow a man with fortune and prosperity.

 

 

OPINION OF THE INDIAN BOOK 'VIVEK VILAS'

If the

nails of a person are red, smooth and if the nails grow more than half

the size of the phalange and is bulged to some extent, then it is

considered auspicious. If the colour is yellow then it indicates some

type of ailment. If it is white, then it denotes asceticism. If there

are just white spots on the nails then it shows cunningness and bad

nature of the person. If the nails are alike a tiger's nails and are

uneven and rough then it shows their animal instincts.

Some things, which need to be noticed, are as follows: - If at birth

Of a child, the nails break then it indicates a short life. For

instance if we consider an average person's age to be 80 and categorize

it into four parts i.e. of 20 years each, then the age of the person

whose nail of the index finger has broken will be 60 whose nail of the

middle finger breaks will be 40 and whose nail of the little finger

breaks then the age of the person will be 10 years only.

If the nail of the thumb breaks, then it shows a person who is pious

and religious. If all the 4 fingernails are alike the back of a

tortoise then it is considered good. But if the nail of the thumb is

bulged then it is considered unfortunate.

 

Nails of Women:

 

If the nails of women are red and are slightly bulged, then it is

considered very fortunate. If the nails are without luster, yellowish,

circular and whitish then they are considered unfortunate.

 

Skanda Purana:

 

It is mentioned in the Kashi Skanda that if women's nails are long and

well grown and are red it is considered a sign of good fortune.

Lusterless, rough and yellow nails are a sign of impoverishment and

penury. If there are white spots on the nails then it is a sign of

immoral nature and licentiousness.

 

Western Opinion:

 

According to Western thought, one should consider the colour, shape,

smoothness, roughness, softness or hardness before predicting anything.

Their opinion is that the colour of the nail is not in real the colour

of the nail but is the colour of the first phalange of the finger. Our

body is made up of central nervous system and the nerve end at the

fingers, which expose themselves in the form of colours. Whatever

changes take place within the body are directly seen on the nails

immediately. Alike different types of skins and complexions, there are

different types of nails and their colours.

The change in colour of nails is an indicator of some disease or

ailment. The nails of the person who is healthy are red, smooth and

flexible. A person who is unhealthy has yellowish, rough and uneven

nails. Even in biology, the analysis of nails has been given due

significance. Now we shall discuss the different diseases, which can be

inferred and diagnosed according to Indian thought.

 

NAILS AND AILMENTS

 

Nails are usually of 4 types.

Long Short

Broad

Thin/Narrow.

 

 

The person whose nails are long are internally weak. Their chest or

lungs are weak and vulnerable to ailments. They are physically weak. If

there are lines on the nails from one end to the other, they also

indicate some type of ailment. Short nails are indications of asthama,

bronchitis or throat related ailments.

It is considered good if there is no sign of a moon of the nails and if

the front end is wide. If the lower end of the nail is bluish coloured

then it shows improper circulation of blood and is an indicator of

heart disease etc.

If the nails of a person are entrenched on the skin and if there is no

sign of moon then there is a chance of an attack of paralysis.

Very long and curved or nails with a depression indicate spinal cord

related diseases. If the nails are fluted and have horizontal

fissures/cracks then they indicate nervous disorders. Nails which are

brittle or which are broken and are stiff indicate serious nervous

problems.

If the nails are not affixed to the skin then also they indicate

ailments and disorders. If the nails are short and if they are squarish

on the upper side and are on the lower side, they indicate

heart-related diseases.

If the nails of a woman between the age group of 12-18 years or 45

years are yellowish, then this is not an indicator of health problems

but denote menstrual periods.

Yellow spots are seen on the nails of women during stages when the

periods begin and on the stage of menopause. If these spots are seen on

all fingers then it indicates anemic conditions but if these spots are

at the base of the nail, they indicate heart diseases.

 

TUBERCULOSIS

 

If a person is affected by chronic tuberculosis then one can just by

looking at the person diagnose the disease. But if the disease is in

the initial stages then one can predict so by just looking at the nails.

 

The front portion of the nail becomes big and circular. The nail become

smooth, circular and lustrous like a marble. This is an indicator of

Tuberculosis

The entire nail assumes a bluish tinge.

If the surface of the nail is circular and if the front

portion of the finger is not circular, then it indicates disorders

related to the throat and lungs.
