Guest guest
http://www.sripremananda.org/ Who is Swami Premananda ? Swami Premananda's name means 'Divine Love and Bliss'. Many around the world regard him as a living embodiment of these qualities. At the beginning of the 20th century, a great saint, Swami Paramaguru of Sri Lanka, foretold Swami Premananda's birth and spiritual power to Swamiji's grandmother. He was born on 17th November 1951 in Matale, Sri Lanka and the elderly saint's predictions steadily came true. Swami Premananda was born with certain powers such as the ability to materialize objects, to heal people and to know the past, present and future and whatever he said, would happen. This seemed very natural to him and, during his childhood, he thought that everybody could do the same. Slowly he discovered that this was not so. Around the age of 14, through deep meditative states, he discovered that he could use these special gifts to help humanity on the spiritual path. He then decided to dedicate his life entirely to the Divine and to help aspirants know the Truth and purpose of their existence. People from many nationalities and belief systems and from all social levels experience his loving, supportive presence in their day-to-day lives and that he solves their physical, mental and spiritual problems and guides them on their individual spiritual journeys. Swami Premananda sees the main part of his life work as supporting sincere seekers, to open their inner heart and lead them towards the experience of their own divine nature. He encourages and guides them to realize the Truth within themselves and attain infinite peace of mind and permanent happiness. He does so with tremendous love, patience, self-surrender and humbleness, not to mention a crisp, pointed sense of humour. He is full of energy and actively does service for others 24 hours a day. Swamiji advises us very practically how to adapt our lives according to spiritual principles leading to self-knowledge and divine experience. He says that his teaching in itself is nothing new. On the contrary, it is natural and in essence is the same as that which has been taught by all spiritual masters and religions throughout the world and ages. He says that his teaching is traditionally known as 'Sanatana Dharma', the Eternal Truth and he is a living example of everything he teaches. AN INVITATION TO EXPERIENCE SWAMI PREMANANDA There is a famous Hindu saying, Ekam Sat Vidprah Bahutha Vadanthi, which means that truth is one but the saints call it by various names. It is only the presentation of the truth that differs. Swamiji says, " The truth is presented by all great teachers whether in the East or West, in their own language and to suit the people who listen according to their own culture or background. All great religious leaders teach the universality of religion. They see unity in diversity. All religions and religious philosophies lead man to the same goal, although they may differ in their dogmas, teachings, doctrines and modes of worship. Just as all the rivers ultimately flow into the mighty ocean, so too all religions lead man to the Almighty Principle - call it Truth, Atman, God, Nirvana or what you will. The paths are many according to the temperaments, capacities and culture of the individuals. " Swamiji gives many teachings for a happy, healthy and wholesome life. Those who follow his practical and down to earth guidelines come from all over the world, from all walks of life and levels of consciousness. He teaches each one individually and with the beauty of simple awareness. His teaching is universal. It encompasses all religions and cannot be attributed to any particular method or system. He encourages everyone to pursue the teaching of their own religion or philosophy, diligently and sincerely. His main principles are love for the Divine in whatever form we prefer, purification of the mind through service or simple spiritual practices. All his advice centres around constantly remembering the Divinity within our own heart in every action and at all times. He says that we are all divine, only we do not know it, and that he is here to help us re-discover this Divinity and make us realise that we, too, are divine… Ultimately Swamiji concentrates on the importance of meditation as the means to self-realization. He discusses the nature of the impermanent physical body and explains that we can know the summit of human potential if we can link the permanent Self - which Swamiji prefers to call the atma - with our own spiritual reality. Throughout his words of love, guidance, humour and common sense runs a golden thread - that the road to enlightenment is one of non-attachment and mental cleanliness. International Community There are now 62 Sri Premananda Centres and Groups around the world. They get together regularly for satsang (spiritual discussions), devotional songs, Abishekams or meditation according to their interests.
