Ardha Kumbha Mela (January 3rd 2007 - February 15th 2007) The Kumbha Mela is a spiritual congregation or religious fair, that takes place every 12 years. These fairs have been held in India since time immemorial and their purpose has been to keep humanity in constant awareness of a spiritual goal. During this time, millions of people from all over the world and of all backgrounds gather at a

location where they have the blessed opportunity to learn from holy persons - yogis (those who practise a scientific technique for self-realization) , swamis (those who is a formal monk belonging to a particular monastic order), sadhus (those who follow a certain spiritual discipline), hermits and ascetics of all kinds, about the science of meditation to realize one's true nature. For the welfare of the public, these holy persons who spend their time in intensive practice of meditation, re-appear in public to share with all the knowledge that they have attained. It is known that over the time span of 12 years, in a person, the soft and hard tissues of the physical body, senses (subtle and gross), mind, wisdom, ego and perception undergo significant changes. The Ardha Kumbha Mela takes place for the same purpose as the Kumbha Mela, with the exception that it occurs every 6 years (represented by the word ardha).
