Can you ==================================================================== Dear Sadhaka, What is consciousness ... this question has been baffling scientists and saints both. science says the consciousness is nothing but a trick of brain..and when we die brain dies and consciousness dies. What is real consciousness then... perhaps the answer lies in Geeta where shri Krishna talks of Para and Apara Prakriti. As per Sanatan dharama, we have three different consciousness working simultaneously inside us. The first is the Fake Ego or superficial consciousness. this is the consc. which a common man has. This fake consc/ego is created by mind and intelligence and this ego tells us who we are, what is our name, and environment. This conscsiousness/ego thinks, imagines and plans. This ego dies when we die and no part of this fake ego is taken to our new birth (so partially science is correct too.) since Mind and Intelligence are manifestations of Shakti who develops both these tools out of Raj and Sat gunas, we can say safely that this Fake ego is a direct manifestation of shakti. The superficial consciousness is a vague reflection of our true ego (aham)... a reflection of our true self in the mind. The second layer of consciousness is our real ego (aham). this part of consc. does not take part in mind processes...like in thinking or planning or executing. This ego is actually in Sakshi Bhava. It simply observes all its tools in work and gives its silent nod to the functioning of mind. This Sakshi Bhava consciousness can be observed during meditation. But this Ego or aham is also a manifestation of Shakti as shakti creates Aham by pure Tamoguna. Hence we can say our true ego or sakshi consciousness is nothing but shakti herself. this ego feels itself conscious due to vague reflection of consciousness from Shiva. This Ego says I am !!! The true Consciousness lies behind the Ego...and this consciousness is not confined to this body this ego or this Mind. This Consciousness is Just " Is " !! This is Shiva ! and when we awaken in this consciousness then we will see that Shiva is making Ego conscious and Ego is making Mind conscious. Where ever there is a name and a form, it is the consciousness of the shakti not of shiva. Even in Ishwar Tattwa...since Ishwar has a name and form...it is actually shakti working as Ishwara...telling Shiva that He is Ishwar. The only difference is that upto Ishwar Tattwa AVidya does not blind Ishwara... but in Jiva Avidya envelopes and we forget our True self The process of meditation thus works as under :- 1- We still the mind and see the light of consciousness in Mind coming through Ego.... this is called lower Samadhi 2- We reach the ego and see that it is our real self...without name and form and Mind and body as its tool.... this is higher samadhai 3- We understand Ego well and see that even ego is not conscious and this consciousness is reflection of another source.... That is Highest Samadhi 4- We leave the circle of ego and go into the Source...and become the source.. this is Nirvikalapa samadhi... no name..no form ...no consc.. 5- We then wake up simultaneously in all...in ego, in Mind in intellegice....as Source not as jiva... This is Purna Yoga which Aurobindo talks of ... and till date very few reached here... Janaka, Hanuman, and shri Krishna are the only examples..... Further questions or addendum by sadhaka is welcomed baba
