Guest guest
Very interesting discussion going on regarding the three prinicipalcharacters in Sri Ramayana . LET US TAKE UP 'Vali' , sugriva's brother . Sri Rama is criticized for attacking VALI from behind ! There is a good reason for this. As per SWami Chinmayananda , there are two reasons why Sri Rama attacked Vali by hiding behind a tree while vali wa engazed in a fight with sugriva , vali's brother . According to Shri Chinmayananda, Vali, the immoral and vicious brother represents lust, the lowest nature of human beings. Sugreeva, the moral and virtuous brother, represents our higher and noble nature. Vali had earned through the power of Tapas a boon by which half the strength of his enemy was transferred to him as soon as an enemy confronted him in battle. Similarly, the power of lust becomes invulnerable the moment we come in direct contact with the object of lust. The sense objects overpower us with their temptations and leave us powerless to resist. To overcome this, we have to stay away physically from the sense objects. For, so long as we are not spiritually advanced and remain in the midst of sense objects in the mistaken belief that we can exercise self control, we are bound to fail since the power of the sense objects is almost invincible. To indicate to us this great truth, Rama is described as hiding behind a tree - that is, physically keeping away from Vali, and shooting at him from a distance. Also, it is the dharma of a King to protect his subjects - Sugriva had come to Sri Rama for protection against the tyranny of Bali ! in any case , VALI ATTAINED 'MOKSHA'the moment he was slain by lord Rama !In fact , in Kamba Ramayana , vali says to lord Rama at the time of his death " My brother has taken a very ordinary kingdom from me and has given me the kingdom of heaven. Also , Rama ! i admire your devotion to your brothers . Please consider Sugriva also as one of your brothers and take care of him ! " Did you know that the great demon king Ravana himself was defeated by Vali in a face to face encounter ? The moment Ravana attacked vALI , HALF OF RAVANA'S STRENGTH WAS TRANSFERRED TO VALI MAKING VALI DOUBLY POWERFUL! Also , Vali was considered a 'wild' animal not a 'human' by Sri Rama ! FOR ONE THING , VALI BELONGED TO THE 'APE' FAMILY and also his lust natutre ( abducting Sugriva's wife by unlawful means ) made him a lusty animal ! According to the dharma shastra of those days , it was O.Kk for Kings to hunt down wild animals and kil them stealthily! VALI VADHAM IS A VERY INTERESTING CHAPTER IN RAMAYANA WITH A LOT OF HIDDEN MESSAGES ! JAI JAI RAM !

Thanks Urvashiji, this further clarifies the death of Bali. Those who are against hinduism (idiots like Karunanidhi) and some communists have deliberately picked up such incidents to defame Ram and hinduism They will never talk of shabri and kevat etc. Aum
