Dear Sohum and other sadhakas,

I have heard there is a shiva temple near Kullu which is known as

Bijli Mahadev. I also heard that on Shiva-ratri the shivalinga is

broken into pieces by lightening and this happens ever year

Has anyone visited that temple and how far this information is

correct

Yes, this is absolutely correct.

Bijli Mahadev is situated on a hilltop and it is just 10 km from main

Kullu town in Himachal Pradesh. Temple is of utmost importance and

thousands of people visit it every year. There was no road to temple

till 1998 but even then peopole used to visit there mainly during the

sawan. This year too around 35000 devotees visited the temple on 5

mondays of shravan just concluded. It is true that shivalinga there

breaks in to pieces( not definitely on shivratri only, but any time

during the year, sometime more than once). It happens mostly in

winters, as the temple is covered with snow, so there remain no one,

not even the priest. The priest only goes to visit temple when he

dream about the broken shivlinga. He clearly sees in dream, about the

exact locations of the broken pieces, some of them may be some

kilometer far away from the temple. It has never happened that even a

single piece was not located after the dream. The pieces are then

joined together with butter and it regain its original stature soon.

I personally has visited the temple more than 50 times. The temple

walls are all closed, still broken pieces are found at far away

locations. Locally it is said that shivlinga breaks in to pieces only

at the time when natural calamity is scheduled but lord shiva bear it

and break His shivlinga in to pieces. Here, lord Shiva also sometime

passes necessary directions through his priest.....verbally.

Thank you very much dear sohum for this wonderful input. People tell

about it but you are the first to have authentically confirmed this

miracle and have visited there too.

I do hope Mahadev will allow me one day to visit this miraculous shrine
