Guest guest
I have a question on Aditya Hridayam. One of my friends was telling me that for chanting this stotra, one needs initiation. I was arguing that since this stotra is part of an itihasa which was prescribed for all the varnas, the initiation was necessary. But my friend replied that in fact sage Agastya initiated Rama into this stotra. Any inputs ? Venkat

I was arguing that since this stotra is part of an Venkatji, I have never heard of this strotra. But I will try to answer. If this strotra was really so powerful & secret that it couldnt be done without a Guru, it would not have been published. It may have been secret in Rams time, but that was 2 Yugas away. If some sadhna is published, it is because the Higher forces believe it can help the ordinary person who does not access to a Guru. As aumji has said many times, all these ritualistic rules are for those who want some Siddhi. Those who do Sadhna for attaining God only, & have devotion, do not need to follow all these rules. As long as their heart is pure, God will forgive any mistakes they make. Since this is Kaliyug, & most people are not interested in God, God feels lonely & has to listen to anyone who prays sincerely. If God became strict like in Satyug, when everyone spends hours meditating, then no one would pray to him, since in Kaliyug people are so busy anyway. All these strict rules & rituals were for Satyuga & Treta Yuga. Since God knows that in Kaliyug there are a lot of demonic forces that try to lower our conciousness, God accepts any prayer offered with an open heart. Then the other thing is- who will give you initation? There are few, if any good gurus available nowdays. If you keep waiting for Guru, you may waste whole life. So start the Sadhna, & let God worry about the details. love Shantnu
Guest guest
Thanks Shantnu ji for this wonderful explanation. This sloka was given to Sri Rama on the battlefield by the sage Agastya when the former was distraught and tired while facing Ravana. This praises Lord Surya and is a beautiful poem. But its praise also lies in another area- Sakala Karya Siddhi (fruition of all efforts). This has been traditionally chanted at sunrise facing the Sun.(after Sandhya Vandanam). The results have been astonishing and even miraculous. This will remove all ill effects of Nava Grahas. Will protect you and drive off evils and enemies. (sarva satru vinasanam). It can be chanted by all- Men, Women and Children. It has about 30 verses and in a few weeks can be memorized. the audio link on the internet is <http://www.prapatti.com/slokas/mp3/aadityahrudayam.mp3 <http://www.prapatti.com/slokas/mp3/aadityahrudayam.mp3> > also here http://utube.smashits.com/video/9CmUOLcJZBE/aditya-hrudayam.html <http://utube.smashits.com/video/9CmUOLcJZBE/aditya-hrudayam.html> The text is here http://www.prapatti.com/slokas/sanskrit/aadityahrudayam.pdf <http://www.prapatti.com/slokas/sanskrit/aadityahrudayam.pdf> It is in fact available in many languages apart from sanskrit font in this site. One of my spiritual online friend sent me this: SRI RAMA TELLS US IN ADITYA HRIDAYAM how to recite shloka and invoke cosmic sun within our sapta dhatu body. Bhagwan Sri Ram prior to his battle with Ravan (Evil) prayed to Devi, Shiv and Surya; these actions he took for his victory over evil. Recite Aditya hridayam on Makar Sankranti. Aditya hrudayam contains the innovative hymns with many secrets and hidden meanings. The Jnana, Jnata, and Jneyam is completed as Sage Agastya is the Jnana and the Lord Rama Jnata and the presiding deity Jneyam is Sun in the heart. Thus the Triputi is completed. Hence it has come to be known as Aditya hridayam. It is said that Consciousness in the man and in the cosmos Sun is the same. Absolute consciousness is being understood only with the help of speech. These mystic words are interwoven in these Slokas. The Slokas third to twenty four Synchronises with the twenty four letters of Gayatri Mantra. In Aditya hrudayam there are thirty Slokas in total. From Sixteenth to twentieth slokas are very important for mantra Japa. Here cosmic greatness of Sun God Surya as the internal Caitanya in us is high lighted. Further the creator is one and not two is explained in the shloka. The human body consists Sapta Dhatu's and in this dwells, only paramatma. The Slokas from Twenty to twenty four are Mantra Slokas extolling Sun God. From twenty fifth to thirtieth the method of recital by Sri Rama and invoking God to bless him with the requisite strength for the victory in the battle field is stated. Savita (Surya) is the God for Gayatri Mantra. The consciousness in the living being is a part of the Cosmic consciousness i.e. solar body. Hence Savitri is the bioenergy of human being.
