Guest guest
To the attention of US based friends, who stay in rented apartments Namaste, Thanks to Ms. Padmaja and Mr. Ravi for advising where to purchase havan kund. I stay in a rented apartment. All floors are carpeted. So far, I had stayed in 3 states and in all the states, the apartments' floors were carpeted. Fire alarm gets activated if there is a heavy frying in kitchen Can you please advise me how any one (who stays in similar situation like mine) performs daily homam? I am very very eager to perform homam and at the same time, I am anxious not to disturb others or create nuisance to others which in turn would cause nuisance to me. I look forward for your advices. Thank you, Shankar Detroit, MI 48335 USA , Ravi Poruri <rporuri wrote: > > Namaste, > One option as Padmaja garu mentioned is to get a havan kund with stand at http://www.homastore.com ( http://www.homastore.com/shop/?cat=1 & cart=8221 & itemid=4). > The other option is to buy the hawan kund from Indo US Plaza. Get two to four bricks (concrete or regular). Arrange the bricks on the floor, preferably on a 2ft by 2ft wooden plank wrapped with aluminium foil. Make sure you spread out the bricks, do not put them closer. Put the hawan kund on the bricks and make sure the hawan kund is stable. > In the Mahagapathi homam video at http://www.vedicastrologer.org/homam/ganapathi.htm, you can see couple of concrete bricks underneath the hawan kund that were put on the floor. Guest guest
Namaste, I'll share few things if it can help. I am performing Homam in Kitchen of my rented flat. It has a 'Hood' above cooking range area. and a small Exhaust fan as well. Kitchen is fitted with 'Heat cum Gas Detector'. I believe that Homa fire will not be stronger then heavy cooking. One more advantage is there when you seat on the floor of the kitchen for doing Homam. The fire in Homa kunda will be farther away from the Heat detector. I keep Exhaust fan On during the entire homa session. start hood only when the fire extinguishes and more smoke start coming out. I also experimented once by keeping Exhaust Fan off (Hood also off) and that too was also safe. The Fire alarm did not trigger. In your case, if you have a 'Hood' and Exhaust fan arrangement then it would be quite safer to do the homa in the kitchen sitting on the floor. If you have a `smoke detector' (Which is generally not the case in kitchen) then you may think of covering it with some plastic bag or such things during homam. Hipe this helps. Guest guest
Dear Shankar, This is what I did: 1. In Wallmart, bought a taurpolin sheet (blue color - in walmart, if you look for tent equipment you may find it) (will be around $15). You can also use any bedsheet instead. The purpuse is keep the carpet away from getting any spilling! 2. 4 Bricks (from home depot) (2 are actually sufficient - these are to keep the homa kundam on. 3. Windows Exhaust Fan (will be around $30) In my apartment, the fire/smoke alarm was located in the center of the house. I used to closed the door of child bedroom and do homam in it. If you use ghee in low amount (dropping 1 or 2 drops at a time and useing ghee only to keep the fire up - otherwise using tila etc.), the smoke is negligible. Also, before starting the homam, remove any burnt out ashes from the homakundam as they will generate smoke. While doing the homam, the smoke is negligible. At the end, I used to keep the homa kundam in the window (I used to wait will the fire goes off) so that the smoke is sent out quickly. Otherwise you can take it to kitchen. If you can separate the homa kundam from the sensors with a door, you have nothing to be worried.
