Namaste,

Yes, you can perform anytime during the day and night also if that is the

only possible time. Doing it around sunrise (one hour before and after) is

the best. But, if that is not possible, you can do it anytime.

Best regards,

Narasimha

I have a little experience to share in this regard. Initially I used to do homas always in the morning, before leaving for office.

Then after a few months one day I did it at night, around 8/8:30 after returning from office. I felt a papable and far stronger effect when I did the homa at night. The meditation too happened in a more focused and better way. Next time when I did teh homa, again at night, then too I felt a similar and strong kind of energy. I don't know if it is the same for everyone but I try and do my homas at night mostly.

Namaste,

> I felt a papable and far stronger effect when I

> did the homa at night. The meditation too

> happened in a more focused and better way.

There may be a couple of factors behind this.

The energy of some deities is more active during night than the day. After

all, night is symbolic of the primordial state of the universe. Deities

personifying the energies and state of the universe in the initial

primordial stages are easier to identify with during the night. Thus, if you

do homam for Mahaakaala, Kaali, Bhairava etc, night time is more apt.

More importantly, some people doing homam in the morning before going to

work feel some kind of time pressure in the mind (atleast sub-consciously).

When you know that you have to finish and go to work in another 30 min or

hour or whatever, that pressure may be at the back of the mind. Whereas if

one does at the end of the day, when there is no pressure of any kind, the

mind may be more relaxed and one may be able to focus better.

In any case, I suggest not worrying about all these things and starting the

practice with some time or the other. If morning is convenient, do in the

morning. If evening is convenient, do in the evening. If night is

convenient, do in the night. Pick a time and do it at that time everyday or

every week or at whatever frequency you have chosen. After you do it for a

while, then you may think of experimenting with a different time and see

which time is working better. In the beginning, it pays to just get started

with some time or the other.

> I also feel some sort of activity/squeeze ai the solar

> plexus....sort of ,what one feels at the heart when

> one sees an emotional movie. Why is this?

When one focuses mind on a mantra, one MAY feel activity in various parts of

the body, like a tingling sensation or pressure or heat or coldness or

crawling of ants etc. Such activity may be felt in various parts of the

body, like the crown of the head or forehead or throat or heart or solar

plexus etc. It merely shows the movement of praana vaayu in various chakras

and nadis that are in need of praana (life force). For example, Manipoora

chakra in the solar plexus area is the seat of fire element, which is the

center of one's sense of control and pride. Any personality traits related

to short temper, pride, anger etc will be linked to some deficiencies in the

Manipoora chakra. When one is able to focus in meditation well, some praana

may be moving in the Manipoora chakra area and trying to improve the

deficiency.

Similarly, if a considerable amount of praana moves in particular nadis, one

may even get a sensation of moving up ot tilting to a side or back etc.

But the important thing is to ignore all these and not be distracted by any

of these sensations. Awareness and analysis of the sensation distracts the

mind from its focus on the mantra. As praana moves everywhere and clears all

deficiencies, one becomes ready for realization.

Yes, you can meditate even after the fire goes off. Homam burns some

internal impurities and internal purity is at a maximum (local maximum)

immediately following homam. Just sit and meditate as long as you can. After

that, as the day progresses and we start thinking of various things, newer

impurities may accumulate again. So meditating immediately after homam is

helpful to maximize the effect.

Narasimha

Namaste,

Thankyou Sir, for so kindly clearing my doubts.

One more sir--there seem to be no end to my questions!

While doing homa one evening,i remembered a friend of my husband--she is a

dentist, when we had last met her (a year ago) she was in pain--something to do

with her spine; As soon as i remembered her i just prayed for her for a

moment. The next thought was whether it is all right to do this while doing

homa?It was not planned. In fact we have not spoken to or of this lady in

months.What should one do?

Namaste,

Yes, it is perfectly fine. The goal of sadhana is to purify self and repay

debts by engaging in actions without much ego. Without repaying karmik

debts, one cannot realize. But the trick is that you do not know who you are

indebted to. So, when you see some natural signals pointing to giving

something to someone, do not think much and just give it. If you get an

instinct to give some money to someone or help someone or do something for

someone or just pray for someone, just follow the instincts and do it. But

do it like a guileless small child and do not entertain any afterthoughts

like " I am helping " or " I am a good person and so I did this " . Leave out ego

and pride to the extent possible.

As you succeed more in being a guileless small child who goes with the flow,

your instincts will become sharper and Nature will show you the right

actions to repay all your blocking debts.

After you do what you think you need to do, do not be caught in it, leave it

and move on.

Best regards,

Narasimha

Namaste,

I am doing homam in the evening. once or twice i performed in the morning and i

think it was a better experience but no crawling of ants though:). for some

days, i am thinking to perform it in the morning. the advantage i see is that

it'll help me mantaining the same time everyday which is not the case when i do

in the evening after coming back from work.

one more advantage i fore see is that if the meditation part comes around

5.45-6.00 am, it may prove to be more beneficial.

i don't meditate on any mantra, instead sit just observing thoughts and praying.

i feel that is also one of the many ways.

morning homam and night for CP seems to be a Jay-Veeru combination. " homam

karvano, Chandi paath bolvano, khavanu pivanu ane majjaaa ni life "

congratulations to all those fortunate people who have started homam or whatever

ritual regularly. god bless everybody.

warm regards,

utpal
