Guest guest
Dear Narasimhaji,Namaskaram. Could you tell me when's the ideal time to chant mantras, stotras, and kavachas? I mean, mornings or evenings better? In which order? Should mantras and kavachas come before stotras or after, for ideal benefit? Thanks,Hari
Guest guest
Namaste, The best time is 1-2 hours before/after sunrise. Sunset time is also good, but morning is better. However, doing it at some time or the other is better than not doing at all. In general, it is better to read kavacha first, then stotra and finally mantras. Kavachas are for creating protecting shields of subtle matter around one. Stotras are prayers. Mantras are special combinations of sounds. If you pray with stotrasand calm down your mind with positive thoughts and then meditate with a mantra, you are maximizing the effect of the mantra. But, instead of doing too many things, it is better to stick to one and do a good job. Just like children learn a little of several subjects in childhood, one can do a little of a lot of prayers in the beginning. But, as one focuses on one subject in higher studies, one should eventually pick one prayer - whether a kavacha or a stotra or a mantra - and focus on it. Guest guest
Namaste Narasimha Ji, Is there any ritualistic restriction on worshipping any particular God or Goddess at night? Also the direction of worship ( east in the morning and north at night for some dieties). why is it so? In some kavachas and stotras, it is found that it should be chanted in the morning, does this mean that the same stotra or kavach acts otherwise if chanted at night? Also kavachas have the angnyasam, etc, what if one recites the kavach without enacting the mudras? Please clarify my doubts. Regards, Deep--- On Mon, 6/8/09, Narasimha P.V.R. Guest guest
Dear Narasimhaji, Namaskaram. Thank you for your quick reply to my query. I am encouraged to ask more of the questions troubling me from time to time. Please bear with me. While reading Devi Bhagavatham I came across a passage which states that since Gayatri is AgniMukhi, one should not recite the holy Gayatri mantram while immersed in water. However I have come across the sayings of Bhagavan Sathya Sai Baba wherein he mentions the time of bathing as most suited for chanting the holy Gayatri mantram. Can both suggestions be true at the same time? Regards Hari
