Dear members,

Inspite of various differences in aspect of Samaya and Vama modes of

worship, the basic difference is ascent of Kundalini and its worship

at different plexuses or chakras in the body.

For Samaya, the guru through mahavedha (piercing into the body of

disciple through subtle body) initiates the sishya. Through his

diksha, the kundalini crosses the muladhara and manipura. These 2

centres are called andhaka nagaras or dark worlds. The upasaka with

the Agni makes the kundalini arise from Svadhistana chakra, places at

Anahata. For a few moments, worships there and takes it up to

Sahasrara and merges it with Parasiva. The objective of Samachari is

to merge the Kundalini with Parasiva at Sahasrara. There is no coming

down and laya parikalpana. Sakthi is viewed with along with Parasiva

in Samaya. Siva and Sakthi have got equal importance. He is

Jivanmuktha.

In Vama, the Ida and Pingala Nadis are held together with Vayu

dharana. With the pressure and jerk of Vayu and Prana at Muladhara,

the Kundalini that is in the state of slumber (sleep) wakes up and

with the vibrating sound like honey bees shoots up. This is Kumari

Avastha. When this Kundalini arrives at Anahata Chakra, it is called

Yoshita. When it reaches Sahasrara, it is called Pativrata. Due to

the heat generated by the rousal of Kundalini, the nectar which is at

Saharara gets melted. The Upasaka with Kechari Mundra and Yogic

bandhana enjoys the nectar. Then when the Vayu dharana of Ida and

Pingala nadis are released, the Kundalini again comes back to its

normal position at Muladhara. So, the Vamacharis are called " Kshana

Mukthas " ie., they are liberated on for that particular moment till

they enjoy the nectar or amrita from Sahasrara.

During the ascent of Kundalini, the Vamachari worships all the shat-

chakras. Whereas, the Samayachari worships Kundalini at Sahasrara

Chakra only.

With regards,

Sriram
