Dear members,

I learn from the site pages of Kanchi Sanakara Mutt (URL:

http://www.kamakoti.org/tamil/ast-sarvadari/) that

• Sri Vidya Upasakas follow an ‘unique’ calendar

(called ‘Ashtangam’?) and

• As per that calendar, the ensuing Aug 27, 2008 is an

auspicious day and Devi Aradhana (like Japa, Pooja and

Homam) are highly recommended on that day.

In this connection, I have the following request.

Can any one of you, please update me on

• The characteristics of this calendar

• Its role in Sri Vidya Upasana and

• The relationship (if any) of its characteristics to those

of Souramana/Chandramana Calendar

Thanks & Regards

The calender followed by Shrividyopasakas is prepared using Devimana ashtanga

gananam. While the vaidika panchangam is prepared in accordance with thithi,

vara, nakshatra, yoga and karana, the ashtanga gananam follows Gatika, vasara,

thithi, dina, masa, abda, parivruta, and yuga. The person in charge of preparing

this calender for Srimatam is Shriman Dinakara Sharma, a stalwart

Shrividyopasaka, the kind of whom it is hard to come across these days. Although

a native of Kumbakonam, he is mostly found with Pujya Acharya Swamigal's camp.

And presently since Chaturmasyam is on, he should be found in Srimatam itself,

where you can contact him for more details on this.
