Thanks Shri.Sri Ram and others

Jabalpur Nagaraja Sarma in his articels about Sakthi Peethas mentions the one I

mentioned in my last post. The Peetha being at the source of the Godavari, where

Gautama's ashram existed and where to purify himself from Go Vadha he brought

Ganga in the form of Godavari. But he does not give the name of Janasthan which I

got after making a google search for Sakthi Peethas.

Incidentaly when we went to Omkareshwar we could locate the Sakrhi Petha there

but we could not go there as the constructionof a dam was gooing one. Has any

one of the members visited the spot.

Dear sir,

As per Tantrachudamani, Janasthan (the corrupted form of Jala-sthAn) and the

shakta pitha at near Godavari are different.

Janasthan is the Bhadrakali at Nasik, Maharashtra and the Shakta pitha near

Godavari is the Manikyamba of Dakshavatika or Daksharamam. Goddess Manikyamba is

also called Viswamatrika.

As i have already mentioned and keep mentioning that the *episode of daksha

yajna* is highly esoteric in principle. The

self-immolation of Sati and evolution of shakta pithas have deep significance in

Srividya which is related to Bahir-matrika

& antar-matrika nyasas. Hence, there is no *thumb rule* and also *concrete

evidence* that only a *select* pithas that were

listed out are the *only* shakta pithas.

Moreover, there is lot of controversy and discrepency in the list of shakta

pithas as per Devi Bhagavata, Matsyapurana,

Tantrachudamani, Kalika Purana, Lupta Agama Sangraha etc.

The Matsya Purana says that among all the shaktha pitas, the original shaktha

pita is the CHIT SHAKTI

(Brahma Kala) which sports in Dahara Akasa or Chidakasa. Rests of the forms of

Devi are just the emanations of this Chit Kala. And hence, while listing out the

108 shakti pithas, the last is

seen as " SARVASARIRINAAM CHITTE BRAHMAKALAANAAMNYAI SAKTHAYE NAMAH "
