As an example: A mantra will yeild fruit regardless of the " faith " just like one doesnt need " faith " in the efficacy of poison to die by drinking the same. Something based on faith like for example kShudra-pretAchAra(i.e. christianity) has at best only a temporary psychological effect. Our ritual systems, especially the ones like shrIvidyA, pA~ncharAtra or the shaiva siddhAnta rituals can be repeated with " science like " accuracy i.e. the results of a sAdhana or a prayoga can be repeated like a scientific experiment. In other words something doesnt become a mantra or yantra or devata(which is nothing but the mantra and yantra) because it is popularised as one.
