While that may be true, it does not mean that a person x comes up with some

ritual according to his whim and fancy and a few years later we codify it and

everyone follows it.

This is not how our ritual systems developed.

Our tradtions are not entirely faith based.

As an example: A mantra will yeild fruit regardless of the " faith " just like one

doesnt need " faith " in the efficacy of poison to die by drinking the same.

Something based on faith like for example kShudra-pretAchAra(i.e. christianity)

has at best only a temporary psychological effect.

Our ritual systems, especially the ones like shrIvidyA, pA~ncharAtra or the

shaiva siddhAnta rituals can be repeated with " science like " accuracy i.e. the

results of a sAdhana or a prayoga can be repeated like a scientific experiment.

In other words something doesnt become a mantra or yantra or devata(which is

nothing but the mantra and yantra) because it is popularised as one.

I don't see a dichotomy of views here, that which stands the test of time

(purana) will survive and that which does not will fade away.

And no I dont believe that the scientific nature of our prayogas yield fruit

without bhakti, if that is the case, at the rate we are completing Ati rudrams

and chandi homams, with each mandali having a bigger and better yagam for world

peace and prosperity, India..no the world should be bathed in happiness :-)
