I am asking this, since?the?writer of that article had not backed?it up with proper authority.?? ? But Sringeri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal had forbidden it when I had put this queiry.He opined that it would not be appropriate to offer Isvara twice what has been already submitted. Guest guest Posted June 23, 2009 Report Share Posted June 23, 2009 Dear rohit, Here are some of the sastra pramanas: from rudrakAmyArchana vidhi: pankajam pancha ratreshu saptaratreshu bilvakam tulasi dasaratreshu pujitah parameshwarah // ie., lotus can be worshipped for 5 nights; bilva for 7 nights; tulasi for 10 nights; can be used for siva linga worship from smriti vakyam: suvarnam tulasibilvam tathaiva kamalani cha ete nirmalyatamyanti punah prakshalayet jalaih pujam karoti chennunam tasya dosho na vidyate // ie., flowers made of gold, tulasi dala, bilva patra, lotus flower if offered once in siva worship, can be washed once and again reused for worship from siva rahasya: ratna svarna vinirmitoru kusumam ya drukcha sankshalitam purve dadyuh pratipaditam girisute samyakpunah pujayet / tat vakshalita bilvasugaje pankshyalitam pujaye / tatralabhavidhou sivarchanavidhou nirmalyatanochita // ie., flowers of gold, bilva patra once offered can be reused for worship after prakshalana. There is no nirmalya dosha for bilva patra. Hence, if bilva patra is difficult to procure, then this process of prakshalana can be used and the bilva patra can be used for worship again. Again, Smriti vakya and Siva Rahasya warn this worship and advices us to adopt this procedure as *APATH DHARMA*. ie., when there is shortage of bilva and tulasi, then only this procedure should be adopted. Hence, Parama Pujya Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal is correct. But when it comes to tualasi patra even if it has 2 leaves or one leave it can be used. Further if these are not available the tulasi plant twigs can be used for pooja. Even further if even they are not available the mud around the tulasi plant can be collected and be used as pooja dravya These as our friend has mentioned are effective only at the time of desparate unavailability.
