Girivalam at Parvatha malai on Wednessday 16th December 09

Dear friends,

 

It is about 65 years ago on the first day of Margazhi month (also an amavasya)

in 1944 His Holiness Chandrasekhara Saraswathi Swamigal performed the Girivalam

around Parvatha Malai near Thiruvannamalai. In order to commemorate this event,

as per the directions of both Acharyas of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, a

Girivalam has been organised on Wednesday, 16th December 2009. This is the first

day of Margazhi month and also an amavasya day. The Girivalam will start at 5.30

AM on Wednesday 16th December 09 from Sri Vishnu Temple at Kadaladi and will

pass through road route of about 30 Km passing through villages Melkodi,

Pattiyandal, Kettavaram palayam and reach back Kadaladi. All those willing to

participate are requested to assemble at Sankara Matam Veda Patasala, Polur at

the night of Tuesday 15th December 09. Arrangements for stay and food en route

are being taken care of. No charges to be paid by participants. Interested

Earlier Maha Swamygal wanted to climb this Parvatha Malai but later on

decided not to do that. On the top of the hill it appears that the Siddhars

regularly visit the Shiva temple after mid night and vanish.

 

Devotees usually witness the little lamp lit earlier by the priest coninues

to burn despite its limited oil capacity and also find chocolates thrown

around.

 

The path to climb the hill is very steep and very difficult with no proper

path ways. One of my friend' s spouse was about to slip,there came a person

giving a helping hand and when She wanted to thank him nobody was there.
