Aghora Tantra, or " fearless " Tantra, is a radical method of achieving

Divine Awareness, and while not for everyone, is certainly worthy of

consideration by those devotees who find the normal channels do not appeal

to them. With Aghora Tantra, one takes the 'bull by the horns " as it were,

and challenges one's assumptions about existence directly, using the

emotions generated thereby to call on the Goddess of the Cremation Grounds

to guide and protect one. The method is more or less clearly delineated in

the series " Aghora:At the Left Hand of God " , by Dr. Robert Svoboda. In this

most fascinating and revealing series, the Aghori Master " Vimalananda "

describes his own experiences with the method, and Dr. Svoboda, who was

chronicalling these stories, describes his own experience with

" Vimalananda " . For the discriminating reader, there is plenty of information

and advice, and as one who has actually followed the methods (much modified

of course; there is a distinct lack of cremation grounds, for instance,

where I live in Canada) I found the end result more than satisfactory.

Remarkably, " Vimalananda " is quite outspoken about the unsuitability of the

temperament of modern Indians for Aghora Tantra and is quite definite in his

belief that Westerners are much better equipped for attainment by this

method, particularly in the realm of sexual ritual. However, the requirement

that one must have discipline and devotion in order to keep oneself safe

does not change at any time. Those who are looking for " a slap and a tickle "

are best advised to keep their distance. Sincere devotees of Shiva and

Shakti, however, may find the advice contained in this book just what they

are looking for to " turbocharge " their practices. I would be happy to share

my experiences with these methods with any interested parties; please feel

free to contact me privately.
