Guest guest
My dear friends and like minded persons Is Unity possible amongst Hindus? – Any possible Solution? When we thought of performing Shri Aswamedhayaagam in the month of December, we really thought in depth as to why a platform should not be created for all religious heads generally covering all religions, more particularly the Pontiffs of Hindu Religion. Accordingly myself along with my wife took all pains to meet Shri Vedantiji – the Chief of Guru Dwara Prabhandhak Committee in Amritsar and similar others. We had chosen 14th December to organize a summit in the presence of Great Rishis from Himalayan Ranges who were specifically invited for this yaagam and for the purpose so that the following agenda could have been taken up. 1) Common Calendar of events as per Hindu Dharma Sastra taking into cognizance of all other important religions / branches of religions so that a common undisputable calendar be chalked out 2) While continue to respect each others, all should maintain uniformity when a matter of dispute arises and support each other on a common unified platform to show the strength and to have a frequent close door meetings to sort out the issues. 3) Each of the religious heads to respect the Lords of other Religions and promote a kind of harmony amongst all in the society – discarding individual images which are not last longing. The insult in the recent times for one of the Pontiffs was an insult to the Religion and not to a particular individual since it is an insult to the chair which was occupied by him and which was considered to be sacred for thousands of years. As an individual, any person can be put to a trail but not the POSITION. He should have been first asked to quit the position and later taken into custody. But then where is the unified voice, who could counter it? It was an amusement for all others. We made fun of ourselves. There can never be a greater insult than this and no other religion is responsible for this. Some time ago, I was with a most famously known Swamiji of a reputed Mutt and in the meantime the milk man entered the room and saluted the Swamiji. He put a question to the Swamiji –“Swami, you are all great men, why could you not specify the exact day of Vinayak Chaturdhi, someone was referring to a calendar and told me the Festival is today and therefore I purchased all items needed and some other priest started telling me to perform the festival the next day and my hard earned money with which I purchased the leaves etc gets dried by tomorrow. Swami why can’t you specifically fix a day and why this eleventh hour disturbance?” The Swamiji simply smiled and kept quite, which indicated to me that there was no possible answer from his side. This is the situation of a Pontiff of a reputed Mutt, Another Occasion was that where Paada Pooja Seva is offered to the devotees and any one who can afford paying a Rs.1000 or so is given Padukaas and a bag of coins, when the devotee is expected to bring a coconut etc for the Seva. This is Ok and the Mutt has to build up its resources from those who can afford paying for the Seva. Then what about a common man, is he not allowed at all FOR HIS LIFE TIME for such a Seva and in that case are we not sending a wrong signal that the Mutt Sevas are meant to a class of devotees. I would have felt happy that if the Pontiff of the Mutt permits one poor family a day to perform this Seva where upon the Mutt does not loose anything, but surely gains the confidence that the Mutt could reach the bottom level of Hindus. Had I been heading the Mutt, Probably I prefer to adopt this system thereupon create an atmosphere of bringing all on to a unified platform. There is yet another instance where some of the Mutts demanded money for their attendance at the Yaagam and some of them flatly refused to attend if a pontiff of xyz Mutt attends. Then again there was a problem between Saivaites and Sri Vaishnavites. Individually each prominent Mutt/Pontiff have their own followers and it is their strength, I do not deny, but then on account their in fights and quest for monetary gains or whatever it is, are they not causing a irreparable damage to the Religion?. The least what could be done is a unified Vedic order of the rituals like Pinda Pradaan etc which Hindus utmost respect, when we go to the bank of river Godavari, the procedure is different; on the banks of River Krishna- again a different procedure; in Pushkar – Ajmeer the procedure is entirely different. Why can’t the heads of the Mutts come to a common platform and specify a code of conduct by conducting an examination for all the purohits and granting them an identity card so that all of them practice uniformly through out the Country. This is the simplest of all, if only the Pontiffs prefer to do some justice to their role responsibility. Till today I have not seen any Pontiff specifically coming out clearly mentioning the 12 places of Jyothirlingas. Some say Baidyanath in Bihar and some one say it is Maharashtra. The simplest identification appears to have not been done leading to UTTER CONFUSION and claim by different Purohits of different temples naming their deities as Jyothirlingas. If these simple things are not possible, what else and who else can play a major role in the coming days to bring unity amongst Hindus and help for a communal harmony? Is it not a fact that our Created Weakness becomes the strength of others? Where do we stand and who will lead us to a proper destination? This is not meant for criticizing some one, this is what I have faced and felt after touring the 60% of the country and after visiting almost all temples of the Mother India. Can we succeed in bringing HUMAN RELIGION and a kind of ONENESS?. With truthful respects to the Lotus feet of Great Grand Father Shri Krishna Dwaipaayana Veda Vyas, Holy Sages Agastya and Sandeepani, and Vamsa Rishi Gowthama.
